Thank you for that Joey. it is the same for me, I feel I am more addicted to the great people here than to the watches. That is saying a lot lol.

Congrats on that serious post count. I just popped back in and saw the comment. I do love the SMP, but have an itch for Tudor right now. I don't like the Lollipop or glass back, which seems to be the way Omega is trending so much lately.

I long for more great casebooks, yes, nobody sees them until they compliment you on the watch and you want to show them the seamster or Bond 007 backs of days gone by. I loved that on my Gens and on the 50th anniversary.

I hibernate most of the Winter, but I am back to play now and then. I do read a lot. Glad you have the bug and are still loving it. Congrats again.

This is a great (thorough) review although the rep used for comparison is an extremely budget friendly version. Some of the better SMP reps are substantially thinner than the one used here.

I'd be curious to see a review with gen vs. Closed factory case. Last time I checked they're were pretty close in thickness.

Thank you for stopping by and sincerely thank you for helping out on my first post on the SMP. Yep I agree with the closed CBs.

Thank you and yes I agree. If you ever see a comparison of a closed fac to the gen, please draw my attention to it. I would love to see it. They are as rare as hens teeth. When I went looking for this rep the TDs that I tried fell short. I did spot what looked like a Noob version on Angus' site before i bought a Franken but unfortunately it was not there the last time I looked.

Funny enough I found an old photo kicking around of an old closed case model I had but with the wrong HE valve location. Old photo but here it is stock.

In the last 6 years I've had maybe 3 of them?

Here's an old 2254 I built out of another cf case. I used a gen non-AC dial:

Sorry my friend I am only seeing this now. At last the fabled Closed factory. I am really shocked at the HeV position. I really like your 2254 though. I do not need any more stuff on my shopping list lol. I keep seeing this and the old 300 and find myself tempted.

Great review. Funny how 2 years ago I hated this watch and now I do believe it will be my 1st north of 1000 usd gen purchase.

sent from my Samsung edge plus v6s
same here.
I used to hate it but now she has grown on me.
Might be my first gen purchase now that I have paid off my student loans :drinks:

Omega Seamaster Professional 300m Diver 2531.80 Gen Vs Rep Review

I have being putting off the review as I find them time consuming and long slots of time are limited at the moment. I need something to keep me away from the M2M sales area as I went on a spending spree. In particular I need to avoid looking at @QueTip’s WM9 and @Johnnylazar’s 6538.

I picked up the gen recently, it is a 1999 2531.80. The rep SMP I got on AliExpress 7 months ago. The rep was sold as a 2531.80 but it is not. It is a hybrid between a 2531.80 and a 2220.80. I could not get a decent one from TDs so I just went Ali. Since then I found Reg (Narikaa) has them occasionally and Angus (Puretime) had a very good one reduced from $249 to $158 recently. I have no idea if it is still available.

I have a lot of people to thank for getting me so far in my watch obsession. I will have to fill in the names in an edit as I have deleted this post 2 times in error at this stage so I want to get it posted and do the thanking later. However the easy one is A BIG Thank you to the RWI Forum. This is a really great place to be.

Edit: The Thank You list:

Here are a few I would like to thank for sharing my journey: @Champagne iH, @tommy_boy, @dferraro7, @Dusk, @mclarendude, @jcagara08, @frediiii, @MaronAckay, @shelby1501, @R2D4, @Thrasher, @Conquerer, @scottb57, @WingNut, @Mr. Pap, @FiloViridae, @Q5?, @junbug5150, @sead1999, @exelonman, @Fradisch, @KingKantona, @Chroniker, @DreadPirateRobert, @imranbecks, @Peteinhull, @ethanbt, @Tanto91, @Daywatch, @Okie1991, @Naylor07, @pippo, @britain4, @Dr.Verylong, iwantareplica, @ThePapabear71, @JoeyT, @Rotador, @OmegaRules, @xj4sonx, @Mr.Marbella, @rocketdogbert, @hasel53128, @velox, @neeeechlas, @SuperHero and @QueTip who was there in the background and who I hope someday I will convert to Omega lol.

There are many more I have met when it comes to other watches but I am just mentioning those on my SMP journey. Thank you again everyone and thank you again RWI.
None of these photos work anymore!! It sucks that so many reviews/comparisons are useless now because none of the photos work anymore. We really need a better way to upload photos so that they don't disappear after a year :(

I agree. I have the photos saved, but I have thousands of them. I have repaired a few threads I made but I will slowly but surely get around to them all.

Yikes, God bless you man. I figure most people wouldn't go through the trouble, especially with that many photos. I really hope there's a workaround for this because recently I've been so pissed seeing a lot of posts are missing photos.

First post. On topic to 2254 replicas, I'm trying to authenticate one, have read lots, took pics. One tell is the lume. At the 6 o'clock position, it is off-center to the left (don't think its optics because I have a couple angle shots). Otherwise, I don't know and don't want to be blatant about my mistrust of the seller (poor BBB rating, Yelp, etc). I'm tempted to condition purchase on removing the back and finding an 1120 inside, but wanted to see what the experts think of this pic? The watch is nearly mint condition (Gulp), case back metal seems a little off (sorry no pic), second hand white/naked metal not black. Thanks!

Awesome review and comparisons, this has made my day. I’ve had mine about 8 years now and it’s never missed a beat 👌🏼 I can’t even remember where I got it from. It’s due a clean & polish & service but still going strong. Only thing I can knock is the crystal is starting to look a bit cloudy on the inside in indoor light. I recently found a gen bezel off fleabay. The swap out was not happening so I removed the bezel insert and just fitted that instead with mild mods.
For me I actually prefer it to my 2018 VSF, it is the ultimate Bond watch 😁 Retains a touch of class rather than looking like a full on diver. If it’s good enough for Prince William it’s good enough for me. One day I’ll get a Gen.
