that said, I just saved 300€ using the skills I learned here.

the watchmaker was asking 250€+1h paid work for a fucxing eta quartz 900.001 to replace in my wife old B&M gen...

A cousinsUK order (19€ inc tax) and 1h later, she now has a fully functional and cleaned watch. Yeah, I just worked on a 4figures worth gen

I am still shocked by the money that guy asked me 😳
Nicely done. I love when I can save money for doing it myself.

l Yes that is quite abit , but if he is a small business he probably has a lot of overhead. rent, utilities , taxes and after all that , he has to support his family. The parts cost do seem like he is raking people over the coals . not everyone has a no profiteering rule lol

Great to do that kind of thing yourself though. Priceless experience and the reassurance of having the tools and know-how to do it yourself is just brilliant

man, I need to make and sell that JKF5513 that has been sleeping in a drawer because I am being lazy.
Now I have motivation.

I sold that constellation in 2 mins tops. I even had to tell the folks that I would not give any PP details before green.

My collection has a 5513 sized hole in it, let me know if you need to make room. Building a Raffles 5513, but would love to compare them side by side before and after working on the case and crystal replacement.

My entry into watchmaking was over an old Luminox Navy Seals watch with a bad movement. $200 to service or $15 to DIY. It was going to the garbage can if it couldn't be fixed, and a new one was about the cost to replace the movement, so one thing led to another

the funny thing is that now I am browsing ebay to see if I have some luck finding broken watches at a good price 😅

Especially quartz ones...the movments are stupid cheap...like Asian 2813s, but they both 1) tick and 2) last more than a year.

;)
