Hello

opening this thread to discuss how to make of a Railmaster vintage model 2914 in 38mm. It seems there also was a 36mm but I am unsure

At this point, I only found a source for the dial at Bi Vintage, at an acceptable price.

The dial doesn't look terribly difficult to create, and if anyone can do it, manodeoro can. This is a Ploprof dial he did for me, which is somewhat similar in style:

If not, a good scan of the dial and some work in photoshop, and you could come up with a pretty decent dial to print yourself.
Before:

After a very quick tidying up in Microsoft Paint. The more time you spend, the better it could look, but to be honest, this would print up fairly nice as is, and with the lume done, would look pretty good:

I still say a gen case is probably better than anything you could find in the rep world.

Hour and minute hand look like something from a Constellation could be used, from any era:

Or from the Speedmaster Broad Arrow, depending on which Railmaster you were looking to copy:

The second hand looks like it was borrowed from a Moon Watch.

A little research says this could be a fairly easy rep to create, as many of the parts you'd need are availabe from other reps, in gen, or with a little commissioning or work on the computer.

The case has a Faraday cage so it's a bit peculiar.
I looked around and no luck finding a gen case.

Is that what the metal ring is between the dial and bezel?
Maybe make something out of a movement holder machined down, but then you'd likely have issues with stem height.

Ok, but if the cage is all inside the case and nothing is exposed to the eye, is it really necessary?
That said, the Milgauss and Air King are the only two reps I know of with a Faraday cage.

here is an Ali Constellation 38mm case. Wrong shape for the 2914, even if there have been Railmaster versions with such shapes.
It seems that the lugs are quite long on the 2914 too, with a large tapering chamfer.

Not necessary indeed. My point is that the gen case is specific and rare. Plus the 2914 fetches 20-25k prices, so gen cases in the wild would be difficult to find, or expensive.

My view is to reshape a case, and cheat the ring using a glued metal washer

Yeah, I think that's your best bet. When I suggested gen cases, I meant that the overall shape/etc would be "Omega-style," but didn't realize that the Railmaster was a specific design.

Omega used the same cases across product lines quite a bit, I just assumed the Railmaster was a rebranded Seamaster of some sort.

yup, if i find a cheap gen case, why not
But I think I can fake it with an Ali case with fattish lugs to shape

this is very close.
Obviously, the bracelet needs to go. and a crown change

The San Martin is an hommage to the 60th Anniversary 2017 reissue ... so the bracelet is quite nice compared to the model.

The case is 40mm so too large for a vintage Railmaster build

still expensive for just getting a case.
Can be ok if crown and bracelet are branded
plus there is a movement (albeit crappy)

Same problem about the case ... 40mm so much too large for a vintage build.

There was a guy on DHGate selling a 38mm "railmaster" some years ago but I can't track him now.
I bought one but it's still in part somewhere in my workshop waiting for me to work on it
But you've rekindled my interest so I'll start working on it as soon as I can :)
