Not worth buying in gen

How good are you at spotting a 4 Hz movement vs 3Hz? without the piece on timegrapher? On a moving hand which wears the piece?? If you can, kudos to you!

8 or 6 variations per sec . Yes it is noticeable. But less so with a stuttery Miyota.

Why are there no LindeWerdelin on this list? Both dial colours of " The One" , and the Spidolites should be here imho

Maybe time to do an update with some additions. I will get onto it.

Seconded. With gen straps (ridiculously expensive, but makes a huge difference) The One reps are virtually indistinguishable from their gen alter egos.

I'm feeling a bit charitable this morning.[emoji6] TC (Thomas Caddell) builds Rolex reps. His works are considered the best for that brand, as reflected in his prices and wait time. He has rockstar status and a cult like followership. He is not infallible but many consider it an anathema to even criticize him. He is presently on an hiatus.

Hiatus, huh? So you're saying he might come back? :))

For many years I have owned Gens I have an extensive collection and as a serial flipper for many years there are not many watches I have not at one time owned.
Recently I have started buying some very interesting Reps. Times have changed and manufacturing techniques have advanced, along with measuring techniques.
There are of course many watches which for reasons of complication and various details will not rep well.
I now find that I am compiling in my mind a list of watches where I believe IMHO that it is simply not worth buying the gen. That is if you are prepared to accept that the movement in your rep may over years need some (Not even expensive ) TLC.

Here is the list and why

BP FF (Noob) Unless you plan to go diving don't bother with the gen. There is no significant difference. I have both and have had the opportunity to examine them side by side.

Zenith type 20 Extra special. I have held both the rep and the gen in my hands and made direct examination. Very slight hand and dial texture difference visible only with loupe and in good light.

Cartier Santos 100 XL
No difference that I can detect with side by side comparison. Even on the gen the cabochon is synthetic and not of higher quality than the Rep.

Rolex Submariner (Noob V7 AS 3135) Unless you plan to go diving IMHO there is not any significant difference I have owned 4 gen Ceramic Subs and still have one .

Pam 111 (Noob V4) Exactly the same in every way in a side by side examination . If you are hyper critical the gen has a tiny bit better finish in the movement plates and wheels .

I almost put the JF AP diver on this list but holding the gen and rep in my hand there are very slight differences n the level of finish in the screws around the bezel , but that is all. Close !

I am sure I will find more watches over time which are not worth buying in Gen.

Anyone want to add to the list of watches which are simply not worth buying in Gen

Any watch that can be perfectly Franken'd is not worth buying gen.
Complications however I'd agree to some extent are worth buying gen, perhaps not for retail pricing though.

This is a great source of info for us all so thanks @simonjay and Tim and all others who contributed. In terms of accuracy it's important to have the exact versions, so for instance the Breitling Superocean Heritage Black on the list needs to have Noob v2 added to it as there are current versions of this watch which are not very good and the drsctiption as stands could lead to someone buying one. This leads on to a related but important point which is the SOH v2, like some of the others listed, hasn't been made for years so you will only get it m2m, so perhaps this could be shown by classifying the watches as TD if they are currently available to buy new, or m2m if they have been discontinued and are only available that way.
