Well I have a genuine Rolex Deepblue on my wrist and a latest copy DSSD in my hand.

What version rep do you have?

Here is latest noob v7 vs gen (thanks to zaeim). He said it is very close indeed.

I had a noob SD4k and thought it was nothing like gen yet some members say they can't tell it apart from gen....very subjective. Everyone has different standards but for $300 (or whatever), you can't go wrong. I spend more than $300 taking a shit in some places. Lol

...and another fine example of how close reps are, gen on right?

The ProHunter DSSD is a BP, released circa March 2015, not quite as accurate to gen as most current Noob V7.

Even if it is in the first year you will still have the 12 week wait. Been there several times.
6 months once when i broke the movement with a hit against a wall with a gen chopard once. I had it just a few months. Shit service just to repair an ETA7750 and take 6 months over it.

Omega one time 6 weeks of wait time (was warranty) as bracelet disintegrated while washing my hands. I had the watch just a few days.

I actually also once bought a gen AP millenary once but as movement was dead second day i went back to the shop to get my money back

Never ever again a lousy high value gen anymore!

With reps i have had less issues. Things from Aliexpress falling apart after a few weeks was expected of a €3 watch...

I think I'm beating a dead horse here to some extent because it has a been covered, but from my perspective, I have a few gens and a few reps. At first I was going a bit crazy getting all the watches I ever wanted for "reasonable" money; however that slowly shifted and the minute details started getting to me. The 5517 rep I put together (my first rep before I was on the rep boards) came out damn nice. A lot of details covered. But it wasn't scratching the itch. My gen 1680 does the trick. The entire watch is being restored by me to "as delivered" spec and it is as much fun as perfecting a rep, although quite a bit more expensive and time consuming...

i tell people this: buy reps to impress others; buy gems to impress yourself." I don't follow that myself but I think you need that particular perspective to understand this hobby.

Most "mortals" could not care less about your watch, certainly not a capped seconds hand vs an open one on TC's 16610...

I buy buy watches that I want to own. When rep perfecting gets close to gen price I pull the plug and save for the gen. Lately I've gotten smarter and just save for the gen, always on the lookout for a great price second hand.

Carry on and enjoy. Every person wants something different from the rep game. Look into yourself and focus and you will be happy.

Its just a friggin watch after all the dust settles!

Man, that was an interesting bickering. :)

I think the spirit of the original post is to talk about watches that are replicated so well that the visual tells are minimal to none, and to me that's incredibly helpful.

I also think at the end of the day what something worth to a person is up to that person's personal value system. We would be kidding ourselves if wearing your reps would give you the same feeling as your gen - I know I would. How much that feeling is worth is up to each person to decide. To me - as a newb, this rep game is opening up a world of which I would have not have any access to otherwise. I love these high end watches' design, and love that I get to wear them for a few hundreds.

Although.. that SMPc sale is mighty tempting..

Thank you. I couldn't agree more. What an interesting thread, really so informative especially for a newbie like me. Truly enjoyed the exchange of opinions here. And the bickering kinda puts a little spice on the discussions. I think Tim rocks man!

Couldn´t put it better :wow:
It all comes down to the $10.000 after taxes question. If You already have gens, spend the next 10k on reps. If You have no gens, spend the first 10k on reps, with the next 10k You may well go and buy one gen, maybe with some change left over. Imho a good approach to it all.
If You live in Luxembourg, Monaco, Switzerland - You can pay for the gen from yearly IRS savings alone, if You live in Singapore with the overtaxed, crazy prices for cars, i.e Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 Standard (A) = $107.888; depreciation: $9.900/Year - it´s the logical decision to buy gen watches instead. If you live in the EU, You have to decide if it´s worth to pay 30% more than elsewhere for the exact same gen. If You live in the U.S. the $5 per gallon gas savings (compared to the EU) alone will buy You a free $10k gen after every 2.000 gallons You put in the tank. The World is a colourful place and like many others I´d need a 500k gen watch budget to be really satisfied (= buy without thinking or asking the price).

Very well stated sir. I really like your perspective on this. I've been buying gens for over a decade and just ordered my first Rep. After following this thread and reading very interesting posts like yours, I'm likely on my way to more Reps:thumbup:

Indeed!! Even looking on the open CB it takes someone that know to see it's a rep.. This watch is amazing and even tested the other day for waterproofness and it flew over the 6atm easily!!
Sorry for posting too many pics of it but looks too good isn't it?

Nice to be back to the plot.

I received my Noob Yachtmaster 40 Rhodium SA 3135 today. I am going to add it to the list. I have two Yachtmasters Gen so I can make a direct comparison. One is 18ct YG with Tahitian pearl dial and the other is SS with Plat dial. So an exact comparison is not possible. I will say however that in function, keyless action, feel and appearance and difference is both subjective and largely insignificant. IMHO the best watch I have ever seen by any rep maker. I believe this will become a benchmark for quality OTB reps. The dial is spot on. I have had the gen of this in my hand at my local AD.

Hey guys, after this post I want to buy this omega :) This is it ? (Only with blue dial) http://www.intime.co/omega/1212-2012-seamaster-300m-pro-ss-ss-blue-swiss-eta2824.html
Thank you for your help.

No. Not the same watch. That link shows rep Omega Sea-Master. My picture showed rep vs gen omega Planet Ocean.

The rep liquid metal planet ocean (LMPO) in my pic is no longer available but you can buy the latest noob factory ceramic Planet Ocean (CrPO) - read reviews here....it's suppose to be a good rep.

I have only ever bought a rep, apart from 2 PAMS I have always gone with Rolex Sub. I love them, by far my favourite watch.
I will get a Gen shortly and wear it for the rest of my life I think...

However strange thing happened the other night when I was out in my local town centre having a few beers. My V5 Sub had stopped working, I ordered the new V7 and sent V5 for repair. When I bought my V5 from Toro he had an offer on some PAMS at $158, I bought one, for that price it was a no brainer. So because I did not have a watch I wore this when I went out. I could not tell a real watch to a rep, ever, I am useless.

So I'm out and this guy, looked a bit of flash guy said "Nice watch Bro" I said "Yeah, dont worry, its not real, unfortunately" He then argued with me for about 15 annoying minutes that it was real, and he knew all about watches and I was saying it was fake to 'Avoid attention'
That is the first time really I have ever been spoken to about a watch. Even after telling him it was from China. I should have sold it him for like £200 but he totally refused to believe it was a fake.
Do people actually care anymore?
So is it really wise to spend 5k on a gen sub when nobody has even asked me about them ever. They just assumed they are real. I probably will still get one, in fact I know I will but as I browse the forums I start to like more and more watches... Tudor now taking my eye...

It was an open movement PAM ? Did you let him to exam your watch in his hands ?
