Here goes the debate on which is better and why. That wasn't the question. I asked "why ask which one it is.?" Cause if you did your research and have a preference then surely you should be able to tell them apart. And if you can't tell they why be bothered with which one it is. You can't tell anyway.

^^^^This just doesn't make sense.
After over 3 years on the forum, and almost 1000 posts, I can confirm that I am definitely a newb. I now know this because SHOCK! HORROR! I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a noob and a bp product by looking at a picture. Since I've never owned a bp watch, how would I know what they look like?
I'm mighty glad that you are able to tell so much about a watch from a casual glance, but for me and all my fellow newbs, I'll make this radical suggestion. If someone is selling a watch, and after hours of research and studying pictures you still don't know the difference, but you've heard the build quality of the noob is better, or that you - like me - fancy trying a bp to see what all the fuss is about, try asking the seller.
Who knows? Unlike MauiDave, they might even be willing to tell you.
Because people might care about differences other than cosmetic ones?I think you are missing the point of the original question. I couldn't tell you the difference between a rep Pam and a gen Pam, much less the difference between 2 rep Pams. But if I ever got the Pam itch, I feel like I would want to know about what was out there before I bought one. I would research, read reviews... Just like I did for the Sub-C when I first became interested in it. But some people probably don't care as much about making sure they get a specific one, they just want a watch so they order one... Which just confirms the OP's original question.... It's absolutely fine to be that way, but why ask? If you don't know the difference enough to tell visually then you really don't have a preference, how could you have a preference? You don't even know what it looks like...

Look, having just said that I couldn't tell the differences between the two, I'm aware that the pearl on the bp is supposed to be better (unless you count noob V2), the officially certified spacing on the bp is not so hot, the bracelet on the noob is much better etc. etc. But why would I risk getting it wrong when a simple enquiry would tell me? I could pat myself on the back at identifying something, and then find out it's BK or something else. All for the sake of a question?
I've done my share of noob bashing, but this place is now so hostile towards newcomers. Were we all born as the all - knowing beings we are now? Were we all so diligent in chasing down our knowledge without asking a question and getting a short cut?
If I were joining this forum today, I might look at the kicking I've taken for not introducing myself correctly, the flaming I got every time I asked a question, the condescending sneering attitude of the vets, and decide it's not worth the effort.
