I've not yet bought anything made by BP, but leaving the accuracy in terms of appearance aside, there seems to be a consensus that they just aren't as well put together as the noobs.

I have a couple of BP fac product and most of it is seems to be more problematic with the movement itself or something related. They might be on par or maybe even better on some area in terms of appearance and finishing as compare to Noob but as for quality and reliability wise, Noob win for sure.

Here goes the debate on which is better and why. That wasn't the question. I asked "why ask which one it is.?" Cause if you did your research and have a preference then surely you should be able to tell them apart. And if you can't tell they why be bothered with which one it is. You can't tell anyway.

Because you might be curious whether it's going to fall apart or not?

^^^ this.
Given the consensus that BP reps may give you more problems, it may be useful to know who's the maker even if you can't spot differences visually.

Because even though you don't know a lot about these watches, you'd like to know which one is the best? The answer is simple and I think you know it as well. Just because you have more knowledge about watches doesn't make you any cooler. It seems that a lot of people don't want to help the newer members because they have done more research in the past. Well guess what, not everyone has been in the rep game for years. I think members like Ale are amazing, because they are very noob friendly. Members who get all angry at new members seem kind of sad, thinking they need to show how much more they know about watches in a bad manner.

You are all making my question more obvious. You as a buyer want to get the best so you learn about which one is best. This means you have a preference now. So noob is better because of blah blah blah. Well now I know look for these blah blah blah's. this means I can look at the watch see if it has these qualities that I know it is the better watch I was looking for. If it doesn't have these then it's not the watch I wanted. I don't need to ask as I can see its not the one I wanted. If you can't tell you didn't do any research, if you don't know the difference then it shouldn't matter which one it is. You didn't bother to research which is better and why. It can't possibly matter to you. Oh wait I get it, someone you never met has told you get this one it's better. So you want that one with no proof it's better in any way other then a anonymous text on a screen said so. No need to investigate yourself to make sure your getting the best one for you. In that case I say "LET IT BE KNOWN THE BEST SUB OUT THERE IS...........

WAIT FOR IT........

A GEN!!!"

There I said it and gave the lost secret everyone has so longed for. No need look or ask any more it is the undisputed truth.

Unless of course your looking for the reason of making a Franken in which you need a certain case for the gen mods. That changes things considerably. May need to verify the type of case if pics don't clear it up.

^^^^This just doesn't make sense.

After over 3 years on the forum, and almost 1000 posts, I can confirm that I am definitely a newb. I now know this because SHOCK! HORROR! I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a noob and a bp product by looking at a picture. Since I've never owned a bp watch, how would I know what they look like?

I'm mighty glad that you are able to tell so much about a watch from a casual glance, but for me and all my fellow newbs, I'll make this radical suggestion. If someone is selling a watch, and after hours of research and studying pictures you still don't know the difference, but you've heard the build quality of the noob is better, or that you - like me - fancy trying a bp to see what all the fuss is about, try asking the seller.

Who knows? Unlike MauiDave, they might even be willing to tell you.

I think you are missing the point of the original question. I couldn't tell you the difference between a rep Pam and a gen Pam, much less the difference between 2 rep Pams. But if I ever got the Pam itch, I feel like I would want to know about what was out there before I bought one. I would research, read reviews... Just like I did for the Sub-C when I first became interested in it. But some people probably don't care as much about making sure they get a specific one, they just want a watch so they order one... Which just confirms the OP's original question.... It's absolutely fine to be that way, but why ask? If you don't know the difference enough to tell visually then you really don't have a preference, how could you have a preference? You don't even know what it looks like...

Because people might care about differences other than cosmetic ones?

Look, having just said that I couldn't tell the differences between the two, I'm aware that the pearl on the bp is supposed to be better (unless you count noob V2), the officially certified spacing on the bp is not so hot, the bracelet on the noob is much better etc. etc. But why would I risk getting it wrong when a simple enquiry would tell me? I could pat myself on the back at identifying something, and then find out it's BK or something else. All for the sake of a question?

I've done my share of noob bashing, but this place is now so hostile towards newcomers. Were we all born as the all - knowing beings we are now? Were we all so diligent in chasing down our knowledge without asking a question and getting a short cut?

If I were joining this forum today, I might look at the kicking I've taken for not introducing myself correctly, the flaming I got every time I asked a question, the condescending sneering attitude of the vets, and decide it's not worth the effort.

When ever purchasing I allways need to know what maker and version not just for future modding. Being a member to these rep forums and following maker threads convinces you why specific makers and models are better. When an item shows up for sale and the seller pics are not clearly representing what it is, that's when I ask. To be honest there are so many reps with different makers and versions its hard to remember why you like one over the other. But after you purchase you will eventually remember. I know you can search to refreash your info but that can lead to somone else snatching the item for sale. This is not craigslist and most members are knowledgeable here so expect people being picky regardless if you can't visually spot differences from pics. Plus when you decide to sell wouldn't you want to know the specifics too?

You assume I am a veteran. Why because you didn't do any research I have been a member for about 2 months. So very much a noob. I don't have a sneering attitude. I asked a simple question. Which you seem to be fine with noobs doing. Unlike the noob or Bp sub there isn't 400 threads reviewing and explaining my question as to why people ask. But I personally have read at least 50 threads on this subject. So I know I wouldn't need to ask. That made me wonder why people do. Next time you assume someone is just some cranky old veteran bashing noobs do your research first. I'm a VIP because I'm a paying member not because I have been here for years.

I didn't assume you are a veteran, I can read under your avatar that you joined Jun 2013. For what it's worth, I've enjoyed most of the posts of yours that I have read, but what I'm driving at in this thread is that you are jumping on the bandwagon of kicking people for their perceived lack of knowledge.

There is too much ego stroking going on, and too much backslapping and self congratulation about how clever we all are. I'll include myself in this. People are not stupid for asking questions, they're stupid for not asking.

I don't jump on any band wagons. If I have questions I read or ask. Generally read first. There was no bashing in my question. You added no real answer. So really you gave no contribution. My question was answered very well by Jordan. He needed to know for mod application one model fits gen parts. Maybe he can't see the difference but it is important to his need. Very valid reason. But on the other hand it's been said here they have read one is better then the other. Well if you can't tell which one is which IE closer to gen in appearance. Then why do you care, you can't even tell.

For the third and last time, there are differences other than cosmetic ones, differences that are not always visible. You seem determined to ignore this, so now I'll give up trying to explain.

Thanks for clearing up what was said by Jordan on the first real reply to this post. Now what do you have to offer? I knew this answer yesterday. Or did you have nothing new to offer just wanted to tell me I was jumping on bandwagons bashing noobs?

OK last attempt.:wyliehelp:

Suppose Kenneth. P. Newb. wants to buy a sub. He has read and devoured all the information he can on this and other forums, and he's narrowed his choice down to a noob or a BP. Try as he might, he can't see the difference between the two, they're both pretty good after all. BUT - he has read that the bracelet and especially the clasp are not so clever on the BP. Since he doesn't want his new purchase to come undone and plummet to the floor, he wants to get it right. So he sees one for sale in M2M that looks good, and asks which maker. NOT the scenario Jordan outlined, but one you seem determined NOT to want to understand.
