no person I know wear a apple watch because it's tasteful.
It's practical, to pay, read messages quickly, as a health monitor...but tasteful???

I can agree thought that Apple Watch is the modern tool watch...

our dive watches and other mechanical watches are just jewelry in the modern world
That's probably because you already in that trendy circle?

Among the sea of smart watches (from SKMEI to Garmin) Apple watch is in the elite tier. Every new release is covered by media WORLDWIDE! It is widely known around the globe, second to Rolex of course.
Plus, by wearing the apple watch people will assume you also have an iPhone. Americans may think indifferently of iPhone because they get their phone free from their phone subscription. Elsewhere in the world iPhone is top tier luxury product.

So... wearing an apple watch -> bonus: people will assume you also have iPhone = trendy, hip, fashion forward, rich!

Apple is not a really luxury product in Europe either. You can get it with a mobile plan.
It's not that expensive...for me and the people I frequent

But thank you, I have never saw things this way and took a lot for granted.

That said, while I can agree that some could see it a a status symbol, it's not a symbol of taste either in EU.

Fully agree and support the observation. You're the nerd if you don't have the latest iPhone or Samsung. The number of times I've been asked who or what Xiaomi is...

I gave my son a high end Xiaomi phone. It's superior to my iphone 14 in its hardware. Honestly, the real competitive advantage of Apple is iOS and the ecosystem

No matter Gen or not. If it's Gen, it makes them jealous. If it's fake they're gonna laugh.
Exactly what I say when someone calls me out. So i go for a "it's what you think it is".

This week i talk with a guy wearing a Gen. He waited 1 year for it, so didnt ask me if it was a real one, he asked me "did you had it from AD or grey market ?". I told him "oh it's not mine". Feeling a bit stupid, i have to confess

Mate, it is pretty accurate! I have few cool cars and sometimes when i dont want to talk with a stranger who ask me "how many horsepower ? Is it a stock exhaust ?" I use the "not mine" card ! It's very effective in ending the conversation :ROFLMAO:

Discussion has gone a bit sideways. OP said he would love a Panerai Luminor but would never be able to buy a gen. Well, good news because an old school Pam bought M2M and possibly frankened is pretty much indistinguishable from a gen to anyone who is not a legit Paneristi and that includes secondhand dealers who handle all sort of watches everyday. I kid you not, I have sold 4 gen Pams in the last couple of months and still have quite a few top quality (mostly superfranken) Pam reps. I will rarely, if ever, wear them as I have transitioned to wearing my gens only but I don't miss the gen Panerai. So, go find yourself your favourite model ( I suggest a Noob v4 111 or a 177 or a H Factory 104 or 240 if you prefer automatic) , swap out the movement for a quality Swiss 6497 variant, put the watch on a quality strap and you will basically be wearing the same thing as a genuine Panerai for around $1k USD. The newer VSF reps of newer models have far more inaccuracies and the irony is that in the gen world, Panerai reputation and value is in free-fall.

or tell them in English that you are British or in any other language any nationality they hate :)))

and if it happens to be a British guy - then answer him in French and so on.
