I had a coworker tell me today someone asked him if his Fossil was a Rolex.

Fwiw, I got “called out” more wearing a gen in my 20s and 30s than I do wearing a rep in my 50s.

Like others said, the wearer is the biggest tell.

In theory, it really is up to you what to say if someone asks
I was just curious if others have had people ask, regardless replica or original. Most people are to busy with their own stuff, but there is always somebody haha.

My next watch is probably going to be a smart watch haha. I like them and super useful at work.

there is always somebody indeed.
But if that somebody asks, it's very probably NOT someone close that you care about.

A friend will say nice watch and look at you expectantly. If you say, you say. If you don't he will change the topic

The "curious" will come at you seemingly with a joking tone. I shut them down with a curt "none of your business" and look straight in their eyes. They always cower away. If they choose to blather behind my back, it's on them, not on me.

I weared VS Sub and told the same people its fake (did not believe me) whom I told the next time, wearing gen, ghat it was a gen (also dud not believe me). I chuckle inside:)

The ones who I matter if they believe what I tell them, are the ones that believe me.

The others dont care.

And from bith fractions, anyway 99% dont give a damn about mechanical watches these days

Like I replied in the forum before, there maybe 1 out of 100 people who can spot a rep in 3 feet away, which is a decent social distance. I won't say a damn word if someone calls me out farther than 3 feet because I am sure he is a bully, not really spot anything wrong.

But then I must admit that it never happens to me, no matter what gen or rep I wear. Tho I have been called out by an idiot who thinks my gen Balenciaga hoodie is fake...

I can reassure you that no one you meet will ever know you are wearing a rep.
Most people don't even know any other brands besides Rolex let alone spotting a rep.

Somebody once posted when he wears his vsf submariner nobody says anything to him, but when he wears a cheap Breitling rep people say is that real?
Is it possible because Sub is too typical design, so average guy think its "just another watch" from any brand. They should read the brand name, but to see it the watch should catch their attention. Sub does not catch attention, so people just ignore it.

One YouTube said he got more attention with DJ due to untypical color and jubilee. Probably same story with GMT: jubilee and blue color.

Anyone has experience additional attention with Sub?

I phrased my response as I did since you did mention the following on your initial post:

Which would indicate that you do have some certain care to what someone else might say about your watch.

In theory, it really is up to you what to say if someone asks. I had a coworker tell me today someone asked him if his Fossil was a Rolex.

People have no clue. Do what you want, buy what you like, and enjoy!

And post pics of what you get. !
It's probably 1% probability that you get a model you cannot afford in gen. Then 1 time in your life you can find someone who challenge you on it.

It's the other way around for me.

When I wear sub or datejust nobody says anything.

When I wear my Daytona people always compliment it.

My guess is, it's way less than 1 in 100.
The sub is so ubiquitous, especially if you include all the "homages" by numerous brands, no one will bat an eye. A flashier model might get noticed by a select few. They still won't know if gen or rep if it isn't a shitter. At, say, dining table distance, it takes several good looks to see if it's a Rolex or an homage (talking good homages).
People admire the watches in the AD window when shopping, but hardly anyone will have have looking at wrists when out and about. Not everyone is crazy like we are 😂
Wear what you like, wear it with confidence and pride.

I must admit that when I see a sub like, I do stare at it to check the dial.

sometimes I will say "nice watch" to see how the guy reacts

very rude of me I know.
But at least I never ask 😁

I am thinking about Yacht-Master as a bit fleshier version of Sub and with default oyster flex.

Or probably I should go as people advice here:
get Daytona, Sub and Yacht-Master and then sell 2 which you like less.
