Sorry I wasn't clear and should not have used the word thicker. What I meant is that the brushed part of the bezel is wider.

You can see that the outer part of the bezels as well as the inner side (touching the crystal) align (see green lines). However the border between the brushed part of the bezel and the polished part do not (see red lines). Given that the inner and outer borders are at different depths, this can't be explained by lens/distance. In addition, this is the case both on the top and on the bottom, so it's not a different angle of the watch either.

That's very minimal and I'm still very much looking forward to receiving mine. But I think that's what may explain Darude 's impression.

I see your point

I almost didn’t buy the ARF sub because of the experts saying the lugs were boxy and crown guards wrong.

To me it’s the finishing that’s more important, lume application, date window and hour marker alignment, polishing and brushing, dial print etc.

I care more about my fake watch looking beautiful then looking exactly the same as the genuine (which they never do)

You couldn't have found a better example with the ARF Sub (vs the v9 noob which is the blessed by some "experts"). The main difference between a fake and a genuine watch, for someone that has lived with the gen for a while, is not the thickness, the proportion of the lug, the crown guards shape, etc. What strikes you at the very right moment that you grab the rep (or the gen) is the look and feel.

We often joke about how the gen shines more and better than the rep, right? Well, that's because, guess what, it does! The hands are better polished and thus reflect more light, the indexes are better polished as well. They have bevelled edges instead of sharp edges and, guess again, bevelled edges DO reflect more light from any angle than a sharp edge (which only reflects is from two angles), same applies to the bezels, to the crowns, bracelet links, bracelet sides. Any mid to high tier gen has that look and feel.

Well, now with that being said, I say the ARF with 2836 is a great example. And that is because, even though on paper it isn't indeed a perfect copy of the genuine Submariner (lugs, crown guards, blahblahblahbolloxdotcom), it is one of the few reps that really has the look and feel of the real deal. The bezel numerals have that smooth bevelled edge, the hands have that lovely 3D effect (more light reflection, see?) and are really mirror polished, etc. They just made it. Bingo! Huzzah!

All this is to say, forgot about those bloody portions of a millimeter, that is only in your head and it's keeping you from discovering and enjoying what could be a great watch.

Absolutely, bro. None of this dilly dally, shit. Going to take straight measurements, take some high quality photos, and give my honest (unbiased) impressions. The PPF is coming in today. So, I'll likely provide initial impressions, and then provide something more thorough during the weekend.

I'm excited for this and I already have the watch in hand! Can't wait to see what you come up with BJ!

It's okay to call you BJ?

This thread is getting ridiculous with people trying to measure everything to a 0.5mm.
and when it comes to Rolex Sub I had both ARF and noob and if i was buying sub right now I’d definitely go for noob! ARF looked off to me to keep it.

LMAO, for you "BJ' is fine. Otherwise, just call me Jag. ;)

I already received confirmation the watch was delivered. So, it's already waiting for me at home! Will have an update by later today or early tomorrow.

My watch has just arrived. When I first took out the watch from the box, I was like holy shit. It looks AMAZING, the dial is so perfect that I am almost speechless. The datewheel is thin, but I don’t see that as a problem as long as it fits the whole datewheel box. The crown is protruding a little bit, that’s actually kinda obvious but not that noticeable at the same time. The movement looks so good that I almost thought it’s a gen movement haha. In terms of bracelet, it’s really comfy and flexible, curves around my wrist nicely. Since the bracelet is slimmer and thinner, it makes the watch looks thin. The bezel is actually fatter than pf/mks, but not really a big deal for me.
I would rate this watch 9/10, literally not worth getting a gen to be honest.

Anyone have actual photo leaks of the blue PPF dial yet?

Thought i would help by translating the points made in the video. Now i don't know if he's a factory shill or anything so... Pinch of salt.

Left is PPF, right is PF.

1:00-3:00: PPF dial is much better than anything we had before. There is a colour difference between the dial and the hands, which is as gen.

3:00-4:00 : General musing about how deco plates are useless and shouldn’t be used if it compromises thickness, because because the plates are not gonna convince anybody anyway

4:00-4:20: The thickness of the PF and PPF he has is the same, at 8.7mm.

4:20-5:20: Much improved clasp over PF, fixed the stiffness issues and better engraving. Bracelet feel is similar, but PPF is more flexible.

6:00-8:00: Overall dimensions are the same, but PPF has wider bezel (the brushed part). Affects the overall proportions. PPF feels bigger than gen because of the larger brushed area. According to the guy this is the biggest problem. Date font and centering on PPF is better than PF, but PPF QC is not great in this area (ref 7:37, he shows two PPF models with different font and alignment).

8:00-9:40: Bracelet feels thinner, he likes how flexible the individual links are. Initially PPF will feel more comfortable, but he says his personal PF has loosened up to a similar feel after a few months.

10:00-end: PPF is best OOTB, love the dial, but he really hates the bezel issue. Generally complains about 9015 rotor noise. No news on the blue dial.
