I own the gen ceramic 26240CE too and though the rep is a nice watch on its own, the hues and material quality of the ceramic are significantly different on the gen and rep and the dials also look different especially when placed side by side. If you know what to look for, the two are just very distinct watches. The tactile feel of the gen and rep cases and bracelets are also entirely different such that even when blindfolded, and holding the two, you’ll be able to tell which is which instantly by feel alone. The gen case and bracelet are a lot smoother and the the color of the ceramic a lot deeper vs the rep.

That said, the gen is relatively rare even among gen owners and the rep is a nice enough watch to wear on its own if one isn’t trying to pass it off as gen… for the price, the rep is a very nice novelty watch and certainly does look a lot more expensive than its asking price. It’s a watch I can spot, and have spotted as a rep in the wild before.
I mean is there even a dial color you couldnt distinguish instantly? Which one would you consider closest on a good batch

Thanks to this post I cannot buy the rep blue dial as it currently is.

That gen dial is just 🤩

My wife doesn’t know anything about watches. When I showed her both watches side by side about 3 feet away she pointed the sub dials right away.

The stock rep is a great watch don’t get me wrong but the Gen dial and GEN DW is a different story.

In my option the only tell when the watch is on the wrist is the sub dials. You can see it from a distance.

Side by side there are a couple of more differences that in my honest opinion cannot be seen on the wrist.

The first difference is the color of the dial. The rep is darker in most lighting. In indoor bright light or outdoor sunlight the rep has a slight purple tone shade to it.

The second difference is the “Audemars Piguet” logo. The Gen one is kind of floating above the dial like it is barely touching it which makes it POP. The rep is sunked in more.

The third difference is the 3D look of the squares on the dial. Also some of the squares are not in the right position especially near the sub dials.

The fourth difference. In the rep, the DW is not very clear. When I first got the rep, for a minute I thought the DW is misaligned but it wasn’t.
In some lighting I feel like I can’t see the full number from the top part of the number.
The GEN DW font size is a bit bigger compared to the rep DW.
The DW square hole on the GEN dial is slightly bigger.
So this makes the GEN DW very clear compared to the rep.

This is what I can see with my naked eyes and only when both watches are side by side and I have to concentrate to find these differences.

I really enjoyed the stock rep blue dial watch but never had the guts to wear it in front of my friends with GEN APs. After I got the Franken, the sub dials are a big tell in my opinion.

Today I can wear my Franken with full confidence.

Again this is a great rep, enjoy it !!

Thanks to @legend 🙏 for sourcing the GEN Dial and GEN DW in NEW condition (Very hard to find them NEW) and for building this great Franken.

It would be really great if someone could take macro shots to compare the differences between rep and gen dials ;)

Thank you so much for this detailed opinion.

This was the reason for me to ask about sw dial for 26240.

SW! if you are looking - I am all yours! Take my money.

I also love current 26240. Great value for such a great watch.

To me, being more aesthetic is important thab the ‘tell’.

That is the reason why I put 15450 seconds hands to 15300 from time to time. And put 15400 bracelet to 15202.

For the same reason - I beleive having a thicker subdial ring is aesthetically really important.

It seems like looking a girl friend with thinner smoky makeup.

So yeah… SW or anyone - would love to buy a custom dial.

Mate DP dials!! apparently they are the one who specialize in AP dials... just saw some videos on telegram and they are beautiful. Unfortunately none for 26240

DP dials may have better colors for some models but typically the tapisseries look very different (I.e. off) vs the gen.
