Cost cutting and raising the price? I thought they would preserve some essence and characteristics. But no.

Also doesn’t help that 80s and 90s APs look like pure now. Like if you wore one, people would think they were bad fakes. It’s not meant to be passed on if the QC on them looks clownish.

I like the vintage and young timer APs. I honestly don’t think they are that bad. My 14790st Mark I is really good and comparable to the latest models in terms of quality I feel. It has enough power reserve for my needs and keeps time fantastic. But yes, I didn’t buy the 4100st because I heard it had a more brittle movement. But later on have met several persons who daily their 4100st.
My perpetual calendar is also from the early 1990’s and it’s amazing in terms of finishing and quality. I dailied it for almost a half year during the honeymoon period. Kept time perfectly, and that was even before it was serviced. I got it serviced after I accidentally dropped it at a party :/
I think AP had great quality during those decades. They don’t look like bad fakes. I get more compliments on my 14790st from non watch and watch persons than any other watch I wear.

But i am no AP expert at all. This is entirely anecdotal from a little sample of personal experiences and your opinion would be as good as mine.

Anyone that would be gracious enough to post wrist shots of the white dial? I am really curious how the tapiserie reacts to different light conditions and how versatile it is (dressed up or down). Thank you!

I am in love with my little bastard, but he has a little more than 12 hours of PR…soon i will send to @Johnny Depp for a complete service (and to fix the screws on the bezel ;))

Accurate or not, I love that shade of blue. The stock crystal seems pretty good too. I was debating to change it for 2x ar but maybe leave it alone.

No gen AP has 2x AR on the crystal and for good reason too.
AR on the outer surface is very susceptible to marring, scratching and tarnish.
Very good single AR crystal is the way to go, IMHO.

None of my gens has 2x AR for exact this reason. Is there any gen with 2x AR anyway?

Some of my Breitlings and Omegas had AR on the outside. Over the years they looked so bad that I had them changed and specifically asked for new crystals with no AR on the outside, even though it was not correct for the models.

I think I’m just stuck in 2018… when everyone was using the prof crystals haha.

The stock crystals these days seem quite good. Are there aftermarket single ar ones that people add to their builds?

The current stock crystals on the reps are actually pretty decent.
If you put them side by side with the gen, they are comparable.
And if you ever run into @TonyMonatana44 just ensure you are at least 51m away, or he will be able to call your watch out as a rep if you are just 1m closer... :ROFLMAO:

From browsing other forums and looking at builds, it seems the Deep crystal is a popular aftermarket add on. Do you know if that one is single ar or double?

The thb v2 skeleton is my only recently released ap rep and the crystal on that one is fantastic. All of my other ap models are the old JF stuff.

No matter where I go, I'm always there.
As someone mentioned, the cut-outs are a tiny bit too large for the screws. But they can easily be rotated to look perfectly aligned. Make sure to protect the screw heads with some plastic film. Then you can carefully rotate the screw in position with a screwdriver. It took me no more than 5 min.

You did that without removing the case back screws?
