I have no doubt that a 3804b would fit the case, but it would require a new handset and the dwo would need to be transferred. For me personally, the difference between 21k and 28k isn’t that much of a concern.

Here you are Sir. UPS truck arrived and wife didn't notice!!!!! Pictures soon in Omega and gen threads

Mendota here you are if you need anything else just ask. I have to get some courage to work like Hor-Fan PS the bezel is like a skin remover definitely needs sanding

The edges of the "bakelite" insert is raised? The gen is flushed with the bezel...

philwongnz Thanks for the additional pics. I see what you mean about the edge of the bakelite being raised. I am still thinking this could be a really good AND FUN starter project for me to work on aging, since the overall quality of the rest of the parts is so good. I mean there are little things here and there, such as the tips of the lugs extending too far past the end links, or the bakelite insert being raised, or the modern 28,800 BPH, but everything else is just so damned good. It's even 38mm versus all of the previous crappy cartel attempts being 40mm. That's a huge difference. The next phase after rocking this baby would be to do a Vietnam build, but I wouldn't even attempt to try that myself until I was either more confident or ready to talk to Yodog, Tripdog, and The Society about going all in on a real masterpiece.

I see, but the insert shouldn't "curve up" it is flat on a very shallow angle towards the center....

The insert is relatively thick, there’s probably enough material to shape it any way you want.

Loving the thread, looks like a great watch for the money.

has anyone got any ideas of what can be done about the extending lugs? New replacement ends of bracelet? Shape the case (seems crazy) more I look at them the more weird they seem to me

changing the endlinks for ones closer to gen wont do much, if anything, imo. only real option is reshaping them, but im not sure how feasible that is. im sure some of the experienced modders here would be able to chime on how doable it is.

It's certainly possible but difficult. Getting all the lugs to look identical would be hard in my opinion. Plus you would have to think about the chamfer as well.

yeah the chamfer seems like it would be the trickiest part, as for shortening them all the same amount, using the endlinks as rough guides would work quite well i reckon: although i don't have any experience with case reshaping other than removing crownguards on seiko mods.

may grab one of these and give it a shot, biggest concern is the springbar holes being too close to the newly formed edge once the lugs are the correct length.

anyone know if Ruby's dials will fit and line up with the date window correctly?

Looking at the side profile pics I don't think the lug holes will be a problem. The lug tips go way beyond them. I would think 1mm or less on each side would be enough to make them the perfect length. I think I remember someone saying the L2L was 48.5 as is from the factory. I believe it should be 47 or so.

Hmmm. Pardon the noob question, but how would you uniformly grind off the material and yet only take off 0.75mm on each end to equal 47mm lug to lug? Would a bench grinder or dremel be the appropriate tool for that? Seems like it would be too easy to slip up and grind off more. But then you need to repolish the lugs and redo the chamfers that are going to get mangled by doing all of that.

You'd also need to redo the curve of the lugs. All in all that would be a lot of work and would need specific tools, not cost effective imho against a Vietnam case. Its take it or leave it.

I would say a dremel, diamond files and steady hands are all the tools you need.
And YES it's easy to slip up and ruin the case but it's just up to you ... proceed slowly, step by step, check dimensions and shape every 5 minutes and it could be OK.
Redoing the chamfers is easy with a diamond disk, a dremel AND steady hands.
Polished parts with dremel and compound ... brushed parts with a sanding block (you can get different grades at an art materials shop).
Biggest deal is the dial as that watch deserves a negative gilt one IMHO.
Still not ordered one but I will do soon.

Thought this would be the case. Just wear as is then.

Just to manage expectations here, how long does it take for them to send QC pics? I ordering the stock one but I don't know if they do the hands separately or not...
