Will they ever fix the handstack/date window?
Likely no. Hand stack requires a completely new movement, not just a modification of 2836. This is why other GMT reps apart from Rolex clones don't have correct handstack.
Date window too - this requires a completely new movement with a larger diameter. You can't simply slap a datewheel overlay on the 2836, because the correct window position is WIDER, thereby meaning the overlay would have to go past the border of the mainplate.

It MAY be possible if ZF uses its proprietary modified 9015 (like the ones in their IWC or Patek lineup). These modified9015 have wider mainplates and wider date wheels, which might be wide enough to fit the Pelagos date window. However, I don't think ZF made a GMT version of their 9015 mods yet. Also, these mod 9015's are time bombs

I still think they should just use the movement from the 226570 explorer II which has the correct hand stack and a wide date placement. There's even a cheap one used in the BP version, that watch goes for like $350. But for some reason no one ever used the rep Rolex movements in non Rolex reps even if it would be useful.

3186/5 have even shorter date window placement than 2824/2836. It would put the window even further towards center
