Nice! After seeing your FFF on that beautiful Brady strap...I remembered that mine hasn't seen much wrist time lately. It just reminds me how good Seiko's can be, it's a beautiful watch...getting out of the watch box now!

Timex of a colleague of mine. His crystal was broken due to an accident so I ordered a new one for him from my supplier... Right before Corona lockdowns came... It took many months before I finally got a message that it was sent. New crystal on it and as a little treat for waiting this long, I polished the bezel and brought the brushing back again.

Franken JF kermit. Before, ran between 214 and 234 amplitude. Needed the dial+insert+crystal to be aligned to eachother. Brivet bracelet had a broken pin, a donor bracelet was given but could not be used.

My own rep BB58. I had already shaved down the crown tube a bit. The watch was running OK but looking at the beat error, it was a bit off. I could have adjusted just the beat error but I went for a full service. Good thing too, since the barrel walls was dry and so too the keyless.

IMG-20200924-101723.jpg

IMG-20200924-101905.jpg

gaskets out for greasing. 4 in total. 1 in the caseback, 2 in the tube and 1 in the crown.

IMG-20200924-102112.jpg

removed several parts the date mechanism since the bb58 does not have a date.

IMG-20200924-103623.jpg

all parts disassembled and cleaned. reversing wheels get a dip into lubeta v105
IMG-20200924-143219.jpg

IMG-20200924-113133.jpg

After full assembly. the watch is running +1,4 seconds per day in 6 positions! Beat error in a perfect line.

Cartier of which the 4 o'clock marker was bent upwards.

Quick and easy fix. One of the movement holding screws was all damaged out of the factory and broke off when I tried to unscrew it.

Servicing a hulk that didn't run anymore. Found out that the barrel was missing teeth and the minutewheel was broken. Other than that the movement had little to no oil.

for some reason the factory put 2 wrong gaskets in the crown.. left 2 are wrong, right one is what it should have been.

Its 8:30 in the morning. Wife and kids are not at home. I have a day off. Time to get busy with watches :)

First off all, lets clean the workplace. Vacuum cleaning the ground makes it easier to find parts that went flying
IMG-20201016-082612.jpg

Using swiffer to catch and remove all the dust on the desk
IMG-20201016-082621.jpg

Wiping everything off with a wet towel. removes the last bits and greases/oils
IMG-20201016-082840.jpg

Workplace ready!
IMG-20201016-083600.jpg

Todays watch is a ARF GMT master 2 that is "new"... Just look how "new" movements look like..
IMG-20201016-083714.jpg

Shitload of yellow fat/grease
IMG-20201016-083805.jpg

Movement out of the case, time to remove the hands.
IMG-20201016-084843.jpg

IMG-20201016-085025.jpg

Removing dial. Always use a delrin tipped tweezer when handling the dial and hands
IMG-20201016-085119.jpg

IMG-20201016-085154.jpg

Datewheel removed, again use a tweezer that cannot scratch
IMG-20201016-085249.jpg

Very greasy
IMG-20201016-085518.jpg

Oil on this part. not suppose to have oil on it.
IMG-20201016-085724.jpg

More dirty grease
IMG-20201016-085757.jpg

IMG-20201016-085852.jpg

The movement was missing 1 screw for the pallet bridge?!?

Shock springs... especially the KIF ones, can be a real pain in the ass
IMG-20201016-092347.jpg

IMG-20201016-092451.jpg

IMG-20201016-092727.jpg

Broken jewel in the auto bridge. Unfortunately I cannot replace jewels, nor have I this part on spare. Advised to owner to just use it as is and when it does break, upgrade the automatic bridge to gen.
IMG-20201016-093050.jpg

IMG-20201016-093307.jpg

All disassembled and ready for cleaning. Due to the fast amount of greases, i first cleaned everything by hand with rodico.
IMG-20201016-093646.jpg

IMG-20201016-094922.jpg

Everything is clean after a long cleaning of 1x ultrasonic, 2x cleansing fluid, 1x rinsing fluid and 1x drying chamber
IMG-20201016-103432.jpg

All keyless parts are put into epilame/fixodrop. Escape wheel get this treatment too. the pallet fork gets ONLY his jewels dipped in fixodrop.
IMG-20201016-103518.jpg

IMG-20201016-103751.jpg

This look so much cleaner than before! Finishing may not be gen, but at least it is clean!
IMG-20201016-103958.jpg

Balance jewel oiled properly
IMG-20201016-105710.jpg

IMG-20201016-111513.jpg

New swiss 3135 mainspring added. Barrel walls greased with chronogrease/kluber
IMG-20201016-112009.jpg

IMG-20201016-112012.jpg

IMG-20201016-112441.jpg

Reversing wheels get an fixodrop treatment, as per rolex specifications
IMG-20201016-124558.jpg

Now look at that! Clean and properly oiled! Love it!
IMG-20201016-131552.jpg

IMG-20201016-132446.jpg

A bit of molykote dx on the crown tube so that the crown screws on move smoothly. It was quite rough before
IMG-20201016-132652.jpg

All gaskets are greased. Movement back into the case and ready!

Great report! Thank you :)

I broke an incabloc lyre spring while I was monting back a balance cock a few days ago. I confirm it's a pain in the ass ...
Fortunately the movement is a 6497 so I could buy spare.

Are you satisfied with your led bench lamp and where did you get it?
I'm looking for one.

Yeah, I was going to buy an expensive lamp that you can find on horologist websites!

I see on Amazon.fr that French watchmakers leaved comments about the lamp you recommend. They confirm that this one is very good for our activity.
I buy it right away.

Thank you so much. You save me a lot of money :)

Hehe no problem buddy, contact me if you need watchmakers equipment. I've been through the same journey as you and can help you save a lot of money haha. Sometimes it's actually cheaper to buy an expensive piece of equipment instead of buying several cheap ones as you go... Had to learn this the hard way

So. This has been my dream build plans for a very long time. I used to have 2 Daytonas in the past but sold them both.. Always regretted it.

But for this one, I wanted to go all out. To go big or go home. And what a journey it was. Sourcing the parts was time consuming and I had the opportunity to buy a Gen parachrom balance! How cool is that!

So the build consists of the following
- Gen parachrom balance
- gen balance bridge
- gen barrel, mainspring and arbor
- Gen escape wheel
- gen pallet fork
- gen clutch wheel
- gen seconds wheel with spring teeth
- gen chrono seconds gear with spring teeth
- gen chrono seconds hand
- arf dial, shaved by me
- CF bezel

So let's be completely honest. This build did not go without struggle. First of all, sourcing the parts took 3 months. Next, 1 of the kif springs flew away and was never found again. Ordering a new one proved to be very hard to source since all the main suppliers did not have stock and did not knew when they would. Thanks to red1 i could order some from an US supplier, thanks for the info buddy!

So going on. Shaving the dial went quitte easy by placing it on a dremel like KJ2020 described in one of his topics. The only downside was that the rubber of the piece holding the dial on the dremel left small weird kind of bubbles on the dial... I thought the dial was lost.. Couple of weeks later, the bubbles were gone on the dial? How the f***?.. Guess it's in my favor then!

The servicing went quitte straight forward and placing the balance in the balance bridge and seeing it come to life was a joy to the eyes!

Time to place the dial on the movement. Normal dial dots/strips did not work as they were too high and caused the sub dial hands to touch the dial and thus get stuck and not move. So I replaced those dial dots with my own double sided adhesive, one that I always use for datewheel overlays and it fitted excellent!

Sub dial hands on, time for Gen chrono hand. It didn't fit.. The hand post was way too long.. Did I get the wrong hands? The buyer said it would fit on both 4030 and 4130..guess not.. So I did the unthinkable.. I cut off the hand post by half... Of a Gen daytona hand... I then had to vile out the post and broach the post again to make it fit. In the process I had to take the hands off a couple of times and unfortunately bent them slightly.. Well the bending of hands is not a issue, they can always bend back, so I kept going forward.

Finally all the hands were fitted. Movement into the case and time to place the crystal and bezel back on. Went OK. Checked the movements running, ran excellent! Beat error and timing were within COSC!
