Dear All,

I tried to gather all the MODS that can be done to a 5711 3KF in a table. This list tries to sum all the posts I read about mods / frankening (althoug in this table I will limit analysis to mods that do not include genuine parts).

I also put the level of importance, but this is just my personal opinion. Should I have missed anything or missunderstood, any feedback would be appreciated.

Hope the table is clear to read.

Thanks and Regards

The importance level of bezel thinning and crown recession might be exaggerated but each their own, ofc.

Thanks for doing this -- my understanding is the hybrid build is the best path and that ideally uses a PF base bc it has the correct bezel slope and dimensions. The 3KF is also good and certainly workable, but if you want that extra 5-10% perfection, then use a PF base. That does create challenges around fitting the 3KF clone movement, but may be worth noting that in your table. Would also recommend servicing the clone 324 movement.

Thanks everybody.

I tried to figure if the best way to reach the "perfect case" is the 3KF reworked or PF case (adjusted to fitt the 3KF movement).

I figured that 3KF case (reworked) might be the way to go due to the superfranken user chosing this way and stating that it is the best way to reach the best bezel.

Worth a debate -- AMF's take was the PF base is best, but welcome to hear the other side.

Agreed. I own a PF hybrid and albeit I like its bezel better than even the gen's but the width of the brushed part of the PF bezel and the ratio of the brushed and the polished parts of the bezel are smaller than those of all gen variants imho. In addition, I'm not sure if the PF case can be shaved to close to the gen thickness.

I think the discussion might increase knowledge here on the forum, hope this take off! :)

It would be great if @2841 could share the process used to identify 3Kf as his choise!

Thanks everybody for the share!

So are you in the 3KF base camp (vs PF)? Or just highlighting the trade-offs?

In an optimal situation a 5711 aficionado would be able to experience both 3KF and PF watches in person before they chooses any or both of them. From an aesthetic aspect I like the PF bezel more. If someone hunts this gen bezel variant

then I'd recommend the PF bezel. Otherwise 3KF is a better choice imho.

The 3KF is in my opinion the best option. It takes less work to get it to gen spec compared to the PPF, and the PF bezel will never look gen, (you would need to ad metal to it :) it is simply to thin/small.

We are currently competing a new 5711 build, 3KF base, with a custom dial and as always, everything reshaped :)

I’ll post in my 5711 tread once done (Link in my signatur)

For me, the base watch has to be the 3KF. The bezel is obviously not correct on the stock watch but to achieve the closest to gen look and feel, it is the best base to start with.

Looks spot on
Personally
-i would remove the movement mods, a service is sufficient
And i would choose from the choices
-ppf dial
-buff hands
I would add from mods
-fix the left ear

+1 to 2841 and Anonray, base must be 3kf

Curious - which custom dial are you using? For most folks, this is Buff (v3 batch seems to be getting great reviews), but maybe you have an awesome new supplier? 😉

If goal was to get absolutely closest to gen as possible (and not what requires the least amount of work or is most efficient path to getting there), it sounds like both PF and 3KF bezel can get you there. Is that a correct synthesis of points made so far?

Indeed...
it makes sense if you manage to get an old PF case.
It makes less sense to start with the latest PF version as it is almost the same case as the 3K as far as I have seen...

Haha! This world is so dynamic and complicated…keeping track between old and new batches, etc. Thanks for adding this new variable into the mix 🤪

PF bezel isn't gen spec and re-shaping cannot make it so. However, PF bezel with its wider polished area can optically resemble the gen without any modding.
However, to approximate the gen spec case including the bezel by modding currently the 3KF base is the best. Nevertheless, personally I like the shape of the PF bezel more than that of the gen.

Got it. Helpful. Sounds like there are different versions of the PF bezel too. In any case, hope this exchange is helpful to the RWI community
