I'm thinking it may be time to get the black dial 15400, even though ideally wanted the blue version instead .

My predicament exactly - always wanted to get a blue dial 15400 to complement my white dial gen but the black one looks pretty nice from that video. I am a bit concerned about the finish of the bracelet - even though it appears to be crafted a little better than than TF (more uniform chamfering angles throughout, same angle on the bracelet and the case, less of a ugly gap between the two sides of the clasp), the links don't look very nicely polished on the rounded sides in the Puretime photos. I hope that's just the prototype though. The tapisserie squares are definitely smaller than they should be but it's probably less visible on the black dial where the contrasting hands and markers draw attention away from the dial pattern.

Link polishing probably just the photos. Very harsh bright lighting used which sometimes loses a polished finish.

Regarding the tapisserie - you have a gen so you'll notice the difference side by side but I really doubt that on the wrist or with the naked eye it would be that obvious at all. No one's likely to run up to you calling you out saying "Oi, your tapisserie's too small - fake!!" and even if they did you'd not pretend it's gen anyway! I have to convince myself of this while I still wait for my bloody QC pics!!!

Uncle Eegz! Please post some pics of that gen 15400! I'd love to see it! It is easily one of my favorite watches.

It will be interesting to see which dial color is closer to gen. For some reason the black dial looks like it has a different sheen?

15400 is a truly truly spectacular watch and it gets a lot of compliments. Mine looks exactly like any other one :)

Lovely lovely watch. I'm hard pressed to decide if I could only have one Gen AP which one would it be. And I'm more and more inclined towards the 15400. Big watches are beginning to go out of fashion a bit these days and in 20 years they may look clumsy and too much, but that 15400 will always look good - it's a true design icon.

One question - is the crystal flush with the bezel?

The crystal sits a fraction of a millimetre over the bezel. I agree about the larger watches loosing ground now but is probably more true about the 45mm and up monstrosities, 15400 is still a fairly timeless size. Either way, I doubt I will still have it in 20 years, I tend to get bored after a couple of years and there will always be something new to lust after.

Lol, I totally get that!! It's one reason why my gens are boutique brands rather than mainstream. You almost never see someone else wearing the same watch! Here in HK in one train car of the Metro I'll see at least half a dozen Rolex and the same number of Panerais!!

same situation in zurich / geneva. In singapore i also saw a lot of Rolex and Pams. I’d say 50% gen and 50% rep on the metro. Hows the situation in HK? More gen or more rep?

Totally gen here. There'll be an occasional rep wearer like me but I'm in the very small minority. You can't walk more than 50m here without passing a watch retailer.

Each of the Richemont brands has at least 3 or 4 boutiques here, and AP has 4 of them in this city!! And then you have Luk Fook, Chow Tai Fook and various other big dealers that cater for Rolex, Tudor and even brands like Nomos and Clerc etc.

I bought the V6 to see how it compares to the TF and there are more negatives for me than positives- bracelet needs way more attention to make it feel smooth but when you do so it all feels ma bit more substantial with screws that are better. The rear of the case comes off with screws whose threads match threads in the case- not the front bezel screws. I've yet to figure out how to remove the bezel assembly- I don't know if I need to press the little pin ends that are exposed once you remove the rear screws or what. If anyone can help me figure out how to remove the bezel that would be helpful as I want to replace the crystal.
