The case pictured is not, the OC case it is off being engraved. That is a spare case that the old crowns caseback fit on so I know the new caseback will fit the OC case.

The OC case cant be used to build a 9401/9411 and later since it does not have the correct profile but is correct for some 7928s and 7016 that have a thin case profile like a Rolex 5513 of the same era.

Unpolished 7928:

@matzemedia @brekker0 - I'm dabbling with Tinkercad, could you please help with how to use a picture of say a rolex caseback and turn the characters into objects to create "holes" in an object sized as a metal plate?
Thanks!

You have to take a 2D image, drag it into Tinkercad as a negative, and combine it with your template. You can start with a 2D photograph, but it takes some manipulation in photoshop or similar to clean it up.

I have finally found a bit of time to make some experiments with engraving….

I had a luck to buy a pneumatic engraving machine.. of course this have to be changed to make so tiny engravings, so I did it. Pls do not ask how but it seems so I am near to get a good results..

Okay… try nr. 2 is better, but I see that the rotating axis is absolutely necessary for an acceptable quality. So I will order the driver and axis and will try to install this right.

I will come back to this project in 1-2 months again, after all parts were arrived.

Forget the axis-device.... Do a line in 2 steps: left side - turn a little - right side! ....usually it works fine out 🤟

The turned axis is 100% needed. The engraving is very nice in the middle but very blass on the sides.

To turn the case manually is not for me sorry - too big chance to make mistakes. I want to build a machine that make the engravings automatically in perfect quality in any fonts I need. This is little bit complicated but I think it is worth it, and what is more important I do have fun to build it 😬🤷
