So, I also got a noob DSSD in this shipment and it's got a couple of problems. The date advances at 6 instead of 12, AND the date wheel cannot be advanced with the crown. At first it would advance, but only if I kept outward pressure on the crown between the 2nd and 3rd position while I turned it, but now, no matter what I do, it will not advance except by andvancing the time.

Question: Are these issues easily fixed by a watchsmith, or is this indicative of a defect that warrants replacement?

The edges of the date mag are almost invisible, very nice. Distortion seems a bit too much here, is it just this angle?

If you ask them they should replace it, but it sounds like an easy fix for a watchsmith (in this case some dealers grant a discount on next purchases to share the cost of repair). Is it 2824 or 21j?

I want this. The Tritium dial finally puts the 243 at the top of my buy list.

It's pretty distorted but if you eyeball it straight on you can see the whole number clearly. All other angles and there is distortion.

Just took this bad boy to Austin Classic Watch and Jewelry. They did not the right size pam caseback tool, so the watchsmith lubed the gaskets for me and then hand (thumb) tightened the case back using rubber gloves, and then tested it to 10bar 3 times. ROCK SOLID!!!!

What was watchsmith's comment on this rep?

Will the gen's hands turn this yellow over time? Cos all the gen photos I've seen, the hands are markers are close to white.

Nope. And the markers only will turn yellow if you protect the watch from sunlight...

Hi Polonus,

The guys at Austin Classic W&J are great. I've taken my AP Diver, Deep Bue DSSD, and now the 243j to them. They open them up, look at the movements, grease the seals, and pressure test them for me for free. Each time, they have been absolutely amazed by the quality of the cases, and in some cases (as with the AP Dive) the movements. They were previously a fully acredited Rolex service center, so they even have the $10K rolex pressure tester designed for the DSSD. They have been under new ownership for a while now and the new team is rep friendly and will do work on them, and while they're not cheap, they're reasonable. They are true watch geeks. When I took my DSSD Blue in for pressure testing, just for grins they took the gen DSSD they had in house and opened both up side by side and did some comparison of the components and we just amazed at the attention to detail there is on current high end reps. I told them that I belong to a couple of forums and that we try to keep the hobby honest and low key and do a good job of policing ourselves and do what we can to keep sellers on ebay and elswhere from selling reps as gens, and that many of us collect both. A couple of he guys are considering buying reps just to have something to knock around in that they don't have to worry about scratching, or damaging. It's really cool to get to go behind the counter, and just hang out and talk watches. I've got two movements on order from Toro, and when they come in my v2 noop PAM 029b is getting a new movement as is my noob CrPO. Really great bunch of guys. I haven't asked, but I'm assuming that if anyone needs to buy gen parts for modding, ect. they'd be able to get them. If anyone ever has a specific request, let me know and I'll run it by them.

Very good rep, the bezel shape is correct! Maybe I would change the CG with a Noob. For other details it seems ok

Here are pics of my Gen 243J for use as your reference... I think the rep is close after additional mods on it.. biggest tell is still the chamfer of the bezel (the shiny edge area).. its wider on the Gen vs the rep..

Very nice PAM. My personal favourite. So on yours it seems only the dot markers are aged colored. Am i correct, numerals and hands are still more whitish?

Not more whitish but its creamy white/yellow color.. but the markers are certainly more patina'd.. btw these pics were taken with Samsung S5 HDR off and no editing.. so its representative of the actual colors of the dial... unless your monitor needs calibration...
