If you're comparing to Rolex 5-digit references than I have no argument there...back then Rolex case work, while not bad, is not their strongest virtue.

But if you're comparing to the current 6-digit references and feel that they are comparable, then good for you...you just saved yourself a hell lot of dough. [emoji6]

I've tried a couple of Steinharts myself...while they are value for money for sure, they are really nothing to write home about.

a watch is meant to be worn

The review I read was compared to his 16610 so the 5 digit sub. My dad has had Tudor since he's was 21 and since then has several different high end models, Rolex, omegas etc. He has always said for the price of what Rolex models cost the older models have never had great finishes on them particularly the back of the watch.
Anyway back to the Ginault since I saw your post I have researched it thorough and have been drawn to it for some reason. I emailed them directly about the review price saying I would do one in which I cheekily knew had finished. He replied it had finished but was willing to give me a one time only 50% discount! Yes I did snatch his hand off after reading all the great reviews even though I wouldn't pay the RRP if the watch. I happy at that price but I'm wondering if their sales are not doing too well at $1399 for the date model that I've chosen?

Here's my Gen Movado. I know some people have serious hate toward Movado's but it was a gift from my father so i cherish it regardless. Plus im a fan of this version of Movado. IMG_3952.JPG

I agree the Ginault is slightly better quality on some parts of the watch, it's 3 times retail price of the Steinhart. I just don't agree about saying the Steiny is sub par with build quality. I've a V7 TC LV X and a gen Omega SMP. My click mechanism on my OVM is better than both!
And I've seen a review on YouTube with a bloke that owns a gen Rolex Sub and a Ocean one and he said it ain't far behind on build quality Either. I would only pay for the Ginault if I got it for the review price with it having basically a Chinese copy of the eta 2824 and them decorating the bridges themselves, then saying it's a in house movement. Opinion of a lot on WUS.
So better case and strap with lesser movement for a direct copy on a 16610 with a Ginault dial on it.
I'll stick with my TC.
Perhaps your Steiny was a bad egg out of a bunch but they're not sub par on build guality and yes a slightly different shape and size because they've put their own signature on their watches with that and not done a direct replica copy like Ginault has.
Most Steinharts always re sell at least just under, same or even more than retail price on eBay too.
That's not just my opinion that's, fact but yes the Ginault is a nice watch. Ive read up on why they've done certain things with parts etc so they can say( Made in the USA) .
Its just a pity it hasn't got a genuine eta 2824 like the Steiny oceans have in it for the retail price! [emoji6]

Ah yes. All very valid points.
I was concerned about the movement as well, but it's been a joy to own and wear every day.
It seems very Robust/reliable movement, I've taken it golfing, running, and swimming and it still keeps good time. Only thing I'm worried about is the rotor has a bit of noise to it.
If it starts losing time (currently running fast a few seconds/day) then I can send it to an independent WM to service fairly cheap.
I'm very happy to own it at the review price.
I think full retail price would be smashing at $800 USD. $1,300 is too much. But then again, people pay $3,500 for that dumbass Monta watch. I'd rather have an Omega for the price

So you pulled the trigger?
Very happy for you Phil.
I think you will love it, excited to see your thoughts.
I took mine off today to wear my Squale but I'm missing it already.
Did you get the no date?
The sand lume is what pulled me in as well.
Tricky bastards

With having the TC LV and the 2 Steinharts, a 5517, the 5512 vintages without date I went for the date version seeing as it is a mix of old and new anyway. Should be here say 2 days or so. Just checked tracking and it says awaiting customs clearance so probably got stung for customs charge too! [emoji85]

Oh no!
Lol customs always makes me anxious.
I'm excited to hear your thoughts on it.
I'm wearing the Squale like I said, but am getting a nasty itch to put the Ginault back on my wrist when I stop home for lunch
