Short introduction is a matter of politeness.
Nobody ask you to tell your real name or location. But just a few words would be very nice.
"Hello, I'm (insert your nickname), glad to find this forum, ready to read and learn, thanks for a great forum!!! I'm in the search for XXX watch, would be thankful for an advice"
...or something like this. WHAT THE FAK IS WRONG WITH SUCH A WORDS???
Most of the first posts now - "Hey, I wanna buy XXX, point me in right direction!"
And some of even oldtimers just run and lick his ass, providing "the right direction", thinking this is the only polite way to respond to a demand of a jerk.
Such a "new members" didn't come here to read, learn and participate. They came here to grab the watch and disappear. Oh, we have 65000+ members... But only about 100 are active. It's like "to buy of 10 "watches" from PriceAngels, or one super rep".
Wake up, folks.

Thank You thedoover

I'm relatively new to this forum, so when I made first post some snot-nosed self-appointed Miss Manners from so-cal scolds me for not having first formally introduced myself. Luckily, I had spent some degree of time reading posts beforehand, so I knew most of the people involved in this forum were good guys. If I hadn't, I would have thought I had happened upon a pack of candy-assed weasels.

Thats Luth, we call him the self appointed expert on everything.:hehehe:

Actually, it wasn't him that time. But I have to side with Luth on this one. You don't have to give a full report on yourself. But to parade yourself in with " OMG EMERGENCY !!! NEED BEST ROLEX SUB NOW !!!! " is just plain stupid. Forums have been around for quite some time. No matter which one you join, you tread lightly at first. It just shows manners.

Generally, I think I agree with your statement.

I just find it hilarious you're giving instructions on "manners". :hehehe:

Nice purchase mate, you will get a cracking build from Daz. :)

Thanks. I hope you're right. His builds I've seen on this forum look fantastic. I' ve had a couple of gen rolex in the past but this will be the first rep I've ever owned. It's a lot of money spend on a rep but, once I saw it, I fell in love. What's one to do?

Wake up, folks.

You are conflating two separate issues; the requirement of an introduction and common civility. If this forum wishes to make a formal introduction a requirement and set down rules as to how active one must be in order to retain one's membership, RWI can do so. As of right now, it does not.

As I've said in a previous post, I'm relatively new to this forum. As I've read numerous threads and posts in the last month, my impression is that the vast majority of the members are good guys and entirely civil unless, of course, they are gratuitously shit upon for some heretofore unknown infraction of rules that exist solely in the heads of a few members.

+1. This is not the real world. Why get worked up over anything that happens here?? Just don't answer stupid questions and you'll be allright.

Even in the real world, I respond the same. I don't wake up every morning to teach others how to behave. Especially the "rude" ones. I'd rather let it slide and let other "rude" people deal with them

Most of these people asking for " expert eyes " aren't encountered in our daily lives. Unless you choose to stop by McDonalds for a #10 combo.

FYI, because of your mentioning, I had to know what a #10 was.

Perhaps what we need is template for the proper intro:

Hello friends. My name is _________ _______. I am not new to watches but a bit of a noob regarding reps. I am 46 years old and currently an unemployed girdle fitter living with my aunt in a trailor park in Indiana. Would love to get to know all of you a little better. PM me when you get a chance, lets get acquainted.

Regards _______ _______ from Indiana.

But I can understand where Luth is coming from. So much time has been spent knowing everything, the only way to strut his stuff is by shitting on all the new guys. That and he has a lot of free time since he needs to re-up his Cialis prescription.
