I think it's also important for you to recognise that it is a criminal offence to import counterfeit goods into Switzerland.
So, if you want to import a rep watch it's illegal, if you can live with being a criminal you should be fine with the fact it's potentially been made wherever by whoever.

Nah, Rolex lost any sympathy/loyalty I may have had when I found they aren't interested in me walking into a store and buying their product.

If I can correct you on that somewhat. Its actually next to impossible to copyright a watch design, unless its something very specific like an AP. The Submariner, for example, is far too generic an idea to qualify for any legal protection. Its dial is round, and so is that of a clock. It has round hour markers, which are not unique, with a Mercedes handset which is also somewhat generic. Its all held in place with a metal bracelet which too is not unique to Rolex.

The cardinal sin of replicas is theft of the logo and marks - I'm not sure anyone here really cares about that. But no doubt some will clutch pearls over those poor, rich, fat, old Swiss men loosing out.

Not only luxury goods. There are massive global supply chain disruptions for groceries and other non-luxury products due to local wars and the pandemic.

Never in my lifetime have I seen empty shelves (or at least big gaps) in supermarkets in the UK or EU. Cola could become unavailable soon, for example, due to the war in Sudan, because apparently the country is the largest supplier of an important production resource needed for Cola softdrinks. Or another example: Grain production has problems due to the Russian invasion because Ukraine is the number one global grain producer...

Also, the last 2 times I picked up stuff at a large pharmacy chain in a 500k+ inhabitants German city, I overheard elderly customers being rejected at the counter and told to go back to their physicians to get new prescriptions because their meds are currently unavailable (and, quote, "won't be available, probably for the entirety of 2023").

Unlike rich people not immediately getting their Rolex or Ferrari, elderly folks who massively worked their asses off their entire lives not getting the medicine they're used and entitled to, is what really worries me.

Chill Eule1789. I wasn't taking about Swiss men as a whole, rather the folks who owned the brands - which does not mean the designers / inventors either - even if they were Swiss - are they? / maybe / who knows...

I know a lot of folks who work in Neuechatel many of whom who aren't Swiss.
