If I can correct you on that somewhat. Its actually next to impossible to copyright a watch design, unless its something very specific like an AP. The Submariner, for example, is far too generic an idea to qualify for any legal protection. Its dial is round, and so is that of a clock. It has round hour markers, which are not unique, with a Mercedes handset which is also somewhat generic. Its all held in place with a metal bracelet which too is not unique to Rolex.

The cardinal sin of replicas is theft of the logo and marks - I'm not sure anyone here really cares about that. But no doubt some will clutch pearls over those poor, rich, fat, old Swiss men loosing out.
Well, at the end of the day everyone can do as they like in as much it does not affect the next person. I will rock my replicas all the way.

However I do think that the moral and ethic codes of western countries should be a global benchmark... Long way to go in some countries.

The whole concept of "the need to build a relationship with your AD" to be able to buy a watch is so ridiculous, pathetic, silly and laughable on its own that any jokes about it are pointless because no punchline could possibly be funnier than the very concept by itself.

The association of Swiss banks cannot confirm nor deny this allegations...

That's not immoral if true, because "Swiss neutrality" is national policy there: "Grüezi Herr Goering, oh you stole that gold from your victims? Don't worry. We Swiss are neutral and did Nazi that! We can hold it for you anyway." 😆🤭🫣

Actually, it's kinda sad and I shouldn't joke about it... IF it's true. 😅

Hi guys
Bringing back this thread from the dead.

I am a new member here (and in the rep world)

I possess a few gens, and I couldn’t care less about hurting Rolex or others.

However, I’m more concerned about encouraging child labour or criminal networks.

Do we have a tangible idea of the working conditions in the rep factories (compared to standard asian factories, not to european or us ones), or is only suppositions ?

Puretime have said there in no child labour involved.

That being said, I’m not overall comfortable in applying American or European standards on that issue worldwide as younger people may have to work if their parents are sick or incapable. The usual threshold that is mentioned in ESG reporting is 14. I would also happily send my 12 y/o to work - it would get them off Tik Tok for a start…

As for encouraging and supporting criminal networks - you’re guilty.

I mean if people are concerned and shocked about child labor, we only need to look in our backyard for such examples

I think conditions in factories all over the World (outside CONUS and Europe) are far from idealic.
In terms of the ethical question I think workers are treated according to the individual factory and what it is producing as it's end products.

If we take a closer look at the Reps and the factories making them I think we'll find the workers are probably treated quite well in comparrison to say, a trainers factory or a concrete post-making factory, for two reasons;
Firstly, the watches being produced and assembled take skill and apttitude to do so. Whoever gets employment working in these places has a degree of ability and concentration that is a base requirement of the work in hand. For these high-end Reps we're mostly dealing anyway.

Secondly, if workers were treated appallingly they coulld 'shop' the factory to the authorites and have it raided. I know raids take place regularly but I think this has probably got more to do with inter-rivalry and new kids on the block trying to topple established "Rep brands", etc.

In summary - my conscience is pretty much clear - it's evident from looking at a decent Rep that some pretty decent conditions must have been present - both in terms of factory and workers. I hope I'm right in that supposition.

Road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I think about TOMS, now gone, their thing was: buy a pair of their guru shoes and they'd send a free pair to Africa to go to people in need of some shoes.

Sounds great on paper but all it did was put local cobblers out of business. Now the cobbler needs shoes and can't feed his family.

Every spring-summer here in the USA, many women and some men will venture into their backyard and find a little newborn baby deer laying underneath cover behind a shed or something all by itself, the distraught human will then pick it up an run it to an animal shelter where they proceed to inform them that it's mother strategically left the fawn there to remain hidden while she went to gather food and that they have just separated the baby deer from it's mother, potentially forever.

The people making the reps do it for $$$, they have families to feed too. Buy them or don't buy them but as others said there plenty of things to be concerned about, just google "cobalt mines congo" and you'll want to give up your phone, laptop and TVs, but like me, you won't.

Boils my piss that one, in particular the tonnes and tonnes mined for production of EV Batteries, which of course the worldwide gooberments all tell us these are oh so environmentally friendly :ROFLMAO:

And after these Batteries are produced, and die, which they all do, in UK they currently have no idea what to do with them so they are currently all stored, read abandoned on a bloody great area of land in Aberdeen

There’s also the factor that these electric cars produce massive amounts of power thus using a massive amount of resource, I’m sure manufacturers could easily detune them to run a lot less power but produce much higher miles per charge and actually be much more energy efficient if they actually did care about that

But of course people don’t see a physical thing going into the car so they don’t think too hard about

Maybe the blinkers will come off some day

I personally like electric cars just because they’re just less noisy and comfortable and driving them feels less stressy and there’s not 100 things that can go wrong with it, unlike Range Rovers
