Thought I'd throw in an update here. Almost finished a new Cussler watcxh. It will be a raffle prize at the next Cussler convention. I called it a DOCSA as I really wanted to make it a legit watch from me rather than a rep
and named it the Cliver which is an injoke amongst Cussler fans as some Raise the Titanic covers mis-spelt his name as Cliver Cussler. Trying to make the dial orange but retain a kind of washed out old look was a complete pain in the A to try to get right. Just waiting on the caseback to be engraved DOCSA CLIVER and it will be off to the convention admins.
Its based on a Seestern. I polished the bezel, removed the branding from the caseback, crown and clasp and polished the caseback and crown as well.
The dial is a Seiko branded dial from AliExpres. The guys who made it don't seem to be selling them at the minute. They started with one that has Cliove Cussler in red on it. You can see it in the pic above of the 4 watches. I just removed Seiko and used dry apply lettering to add DOXA. Trying to make that dial orange obliterated the red Clive Cussler lettering. then they made a sterile version which is what I used for the cliver. Even with the lightest orange paint, the dial still turned out more red than I wanted. I used a gloss finish the make sure the letters stayed adhered to the dial.
