Thought I’d share the fruits of my labour here since this thread has been so helpful and instructive to me.

Retina had done a tropical print. It's possible.

With some ageing and proper loom I think. This could look good. Thoughts ??

Grazie mille Signora :smildzor:
That custom 16600 have been made in 2008 as a limited run of 78 pieces only :ranting2:

But I'm quite certain there wil be a 79th (or more ?) in a few months :matty:I still have to improve some technical details and I'll be ready to mod a 16600 dial

OFF TOPIC :
Next week I'll do a test of electrolytic etching on a spare caseback ... cause a Polizia Di Stato MUST have that specificaly engraved caseback

You all have done some amazing work here and taken the hobby to new levels. Bravo!

You have me wondering what might be done with the decal to create a "spider" dial.

"Rolex’s watches went through a transitional period during the mid to late 1980’s, in which the brand experimented with new materials, began using advanced movements, and made minor adjustments to their designs in order to give their watches a more luxurious feel. One such adjustment was the switch from matte to gloss dials in all of the brand’s sports models, and in doing so, Rolex unintentionally created a sub-variant of several of their offerings – the spider dial. Essentially, Rolex hadn’t perfected the lacquer finish that is applied to the black surface of the dial, and with time, some examples began to experience cracking that resembled a spider web, or crazing, as it’s referred to by some collectors."

Maybe adding a stiff laquer coating and putting the dial under slight torsion pressure? Similar to releasing an ice cube. It’s risky but a possibility

That's amazing. Can you post the results of your electrolyte etching please and the way you do it. I am in the need of an engraved caseback, too. But I hasitate to send it to an unknown person to do this for me. Electrolyte etching could be the solution for me, too.

I already tried and the problem is the varnish is not stiff enough to "crackle" ... even after weeks/months of drying.

No problem [emoji4]
If you want really crispy details a laser etching machine can be used.
That's how I etched the caseback for my 16800 COMEX build

Hello manodeoro

Thank you for asking! I have two current projects:

1. I have a Tudor BigBlock case for a gen eta7750 to fit in. I'd like to engrave the Rolex script and logo onto and into the caseback. Further I'd like to engrave the scripts between the lugs. In Germany you don't find a jewlery shop that engraves script-fonts that are protected by a brand. Even if it is just and only for a private use as it is in my case.

2. I have my own personal "mini-micro-brand" and I would like to do a personal engraving onto the caseback. I have never shown this here because it shows my clear name.

Last not least I want to improve my skills so every "do-it-yourself-without-expensive machinery"- idea is welcome :).

Regards from Germany
