Hi guys

Im looking for a nice dark red or burgundy strap. Anyone have a dark red or burgundy strap and can share pictures and where you got them?

I found these 2 really nice pictures of a orloff strap from someone on this forum. Anyone know whats the leather color name of the orloff strap? Siena or Prugna? It looks like a burgundy? If owner of this strap is here please let me know! I have a PAM111 and i think this orloff strap looks very good with it!

Very nice leather Tootall, very nice!

To answer the OP, I'm not the owner, but I think it's Siena because Orloff Prugna is purplish. Of course only the owner knows for sure ;)

Go with a Dirk or Paci PAV91

It is THE burgundy Panerai strap.

I am looking for a reddish burgundy strap. I dont want to buy a burgundy strap and ask myself is that dark brown or burgundy?. I want to be able to look at it know right away its burgundy.

So far im liking the 2 photos of orloffs strap. I am asking him which leather is that strap just waiting for reply. I am confused if its prugna(plum) or siena. Hope the owner of those 2 pictures will reply!

Originally i wanted to order this strap from Vissuto.... but the leather is not available anymore :(. It looks really special the washed red leather and its like a burgundy color.

Grimlocktime, i will check out the dirk and paci

tootall , yes thanks i think Orloff it may be the siena color. I just want it looking more red than a dark brown. I see your pictures of your strap as well. I dont like the dark black areas too much but its nice made strap. I wish i can see all the straps in real life, it would make it so much easier to decide. Pictures are always so confusing!

M.Jules, your toad looks brown and your strap on 382 looks like dark brown burgundy. It might just be the photo.

I want to look for more of a red burgundy and special cool leather like the vissuto strap above,, its so nice but no more ;(

dirk and paci are not TD's here. Burgundy is THE easiest color to nail since most dark brown leather dye is saturated with dark red.

Why send a member elsewhere when we have 10-12 trusted, capable artisans on this site alone?

talk to tootall, he should be able to do that. If for some reason he doesn't have the hide, I can do a nice washed out burgundy strap no problem. I can show you some leather samples before you commit.

No, but Dirk and Paci are the TDs to the rest of the Panerai strap collecting world. No offense meant to strap makers here.

I dont believe the OP is looking for a Burgundy strap made exclusively by RWI strap makers. I'm just stating my opinion and informing him about the PAV91. Its a piece of Panerai history made by the original Pre-V Panerai strap makers. It's made of top quality water resiatant hides and has the one of the most unique strap looks available.

Its an incredible strap and much more than just a "burgundy strap". I dont regret steering the OP towards it. I am kind of biased towards PAVs and Kodiaks because I own 10 of them, but there's a reason. I have tried most of what's out there and settled on Dirks and Pacis, they are incredible.

If the OP wants a hand crafted Burgundy strap, sure there are lots of briliant craftsman here like you who can make one. But I am not aware of anyone here that can make a burgundy Water resistant PAV91 made from the original Panerai Pre-V design and hides used in the early 90s. It is truly a special piece of Panerai history.

Below is a pic of the Dirk with matching stitching. But here's a link to the Paci with gold stitching... Very sharp.

This website has quarterly sales, where the price will drop to $140.

Tootals pull up leathers are awesome. It was the first strap I ever splurged on years ago when I was in college and its the ONLY strap I've kept through the years.

Paci and dirk are nice. Check out risti to see if you can get a good deal

I figure i would make a dark red/burgundy strap thread to help myself or anyone else looking for this color of strap. I think its a pretty special color than the regular black and browns.

Orloff said he would mail me a sample leathers of the Siena and Prugna colors. I think thats pretty awesome, that way i know exactly what it will look like before asking him to make it for me.

Grimlocktime:
I have straps from Bakeka, Ted su, and Gunny. I would always be open to try new strap makers to see what others have to offer. If i really like the strap and it costs more i would still buy it.

I like dirks straps, only thing i dont like is his 'dirk' logo on the buckles but thats simple fix. The dirk burgundy with matching stitching looks nice! What is good about dirks burgundy leather? I will go check out his straps on paneristi again.

The PAV91 im sure is very nice leather but i want my burgundy to have more red in it. This strap looks a bit too brown to me on the website.
$140 for a MP strap is very good! Only problem with MP straps, I cant custom make it? I need the holes in the exact location so i wont be inbetween holes. I guess i could custom make but it would be even more expensive. Maybe next time MP straps go on sale i will pick one up so i can see what its all about.

You are right, i am looking for the perfect burgundy strap for myself to use forever. I only want the best straps in my collection so i need to take my time to choose the right one. My favorite one right now is the Vissuto washed red leather strap i posted. I love the red burgundy color and look of the strap. Im sad its not available anymore. Its look much more special than any of the other burgundy leather straps ive seen.

P4GTR:
You can do a washed red burgundy strap just like the vissuto strap? Gunny also told me he can make one but i was not sure how close he can get it looking like the vissuto washed red leather strap. I guess washed leather straps are not popular because the washing process takes much more time? How much would you sell a washed leather strap for $150-200? Its hard to decide when i cant see pictures of it already made.

I understand, to each their own. The burgundy leather I have is not a full grain leather. It is a pronounced grain leather. Wickett and Craig make a very nice full grain burgundy leather. Savage straps used to sell one, but he has been gone a while :(

Here is one of his old ones: http://www.savagestraps.com/previous-work.php?view=preview&category=7&image=109

Fair and valid points Grim.

Here is a quick look at two options I would have. One is an oil tanned leather. It is softer and lightens when bent, rubs darker (pull up leather). The other is a veg tan, like an ammo bag, or saddle leather. It is stiffer but equal merit of character and quality. The stitch is in the oil tan.

I'd have to discuss the strap details a little further but it would be under $150 for either choice.

thanks for offering info and help. Its really hard for me to decide until i see pictures of a washed red burgundy strap. I dont want to get someone to make a strap for me and not 100% like it after. $150 is a great price i think! I am looking for a strap that i will be using for a lonnnggg time.

I think i may just get a burgundy strap from Orloff. In email it seems like his english is not very good and doesnt answer my questions clearly making me a little confused. I think SIENA is probably the closest to burgundy and want to get a matching burgundy stitching. I like his strap prices and the proportions and shape of his straps look good. The italian leather should be nice too!

same as this picture but with matching burgundy stitching

Please be advised that thread color can sometimes drastically change the way a strap looks. A while back, I had my wife look at two different straps. It was the same leather but one had white thread, the other had black thread. She thought for sure the leather was different as well. And she has seen a lot of straps I have made over the years. Just a FYI.

Yes i think if the burgundy leather is dark and if the thread is a brighter burgundy it will make the strap look brighter. And if it used black stitching it would make the burgundy leather look darker. I think i know what you mean
