Those were the same images that caught my eye too KJ. Thought to myself just how much lighting comes into play. I wear gold daily and also ordered this timepiece from ctime. Once it arrives, I sure hope it matches up fairly well. Only time and daylight will tell.

Guys c'mon. Gold is a little darker than gen? Sure. Cheddar in need of replating? I don't think so.

With all due respect the pictures he shows doesn't show the real tale -- it's not hard to manipulate lighting sources (and images for that matter) to make tones look close to each other. Now look at the youku video in standard everyday lighting, the watch is pretty cheddary.

Great comparison. Thanks
Still curious Why Clean never fix this spot? I check other comparisons of other watches, this tiny round shaped spot is far different from gen.

Cost vs benefit. You will never see this without 10x magnification loupe. Not worth it to spend $50 extra for a 1% detail improvement.

I think with all the gold tone talk, its best to just :

1) replate immediately if you are picky about gold color

2) just accept it - lighting plays a big role in the color, and in low light/restaurant conditions its impossible to tell. Bright sunlight or office work? Maybe. Also under a cuff a gold watch is harder to point out the tells

Personally I would replate if it's a daily piece or full gold. But if you plan to wear it once a month to a restaurant or club or whatever - imho not worth it

IDK bro, even video can show unrealistic tones and light sources still play a large role. I can't watch the video as I don't install random apps but was this a side by side with a gen?

No other TD site has any images of the CLEAN posted but here's a comparison of the same APF model from two different TDs showing what lighting can do.

Ofc most sales presenters will try to show their products in the best way but I highly doubt @CTime did any image manipulation to only one object of two in so many pics. If we assume that, the CLEAN is certainly close enough in tone to the gen to satisfy many if not most of us.

Most people don't have the hyper critical eye that you and I do but where you differ some is your threshold of acceptance. Nothing wrong with that but it is a rep after all.

We'll have to wait and see once some folks get them in hand.

I still claim the rep is very well made, but constructive criticism is applicable - it can definitely use a replating. You can watch the youku vid on a browser sometime with adblock - you'll see how cheddary it is. The gen would not look that cheddary in any lighting -- this is just something reps have not nailed yet. I mean, even Ctime was courteous enough to say that he hasn't seen any rep factory get the plating right - and he's correct. It's just not there in the game yet. Now, will most people notice? Probably not, but if anyone handled the gen and knows their way around watches, the color will indeed still stick out like a sore thumb. But most people haven't handled gen and likely would not notice. But gold is not passable to people who know their way around a gen.

I mean the color difference is definitely there and is a very easy tell - it's just too damn yellow. The gen on the right would not look like the rep on the left in any lighting. If you handled a gen you'd notice the difference the second you laid eyes on it.

Here is the full gold version. If this doesn't encapsulate how cheddary the plating is I don't know what will. It's just not good.

I stand corrected. Seeing more pics in different lighting made me realize it's more cheddary than I first suspected.

My QC is expected for the 5th / 6th October and i will then upload some of those pictures here.
Same for when i get the watch in my hands, Ill post pics under different conditions.
I personally also dont know what to expect either, since there arent any "real world" pictures yet.

You can't use this picture, taken with a potato, as an example of colour accuracy - just look at the colour of the guys fingertips.

Lol what? I have seen plenty of people with fingertips like that... not uncommon to see flush hands.

Also it's not potato quality. You can see it in 1080p here if you sign up for a Youku account, it's crystal clear:

Bro I admit this does not look good.

But without an unfiltered pic of a gen next to it, you really can't make an accurate assessment.

Here are some unfiltered pics of my CLEAN Bluesy next to my gen Skydweller.

H65gHX.jpeg

H65VEc.jpeg

H6UZ4b.jpeg

H6UD1i.jpeg

And some other plated reps next to the gen. All of them change color tone in outdoor vs indoor lighting, to the point where even the gen looks tangy.

This isn't CLEAN's first foray into plating. I haven't read any complaints about their 116713 GMT, their plated Subs, or their plated Daytonas. Not like the old orange VRFs or the notorious VSF Subs.

So I'll reserve further judgment (and comment) until we have some more member data available. I do appreciate your eye, it's quite keen.
