Sead said that all current clean subs have the wrong / square crown guards. I’m sceptical they have been fixed. More likely Clean found a batch of someone else’s cases for a while.

yes i agree. Very much seems that way

To be fair the crown guards seem very talked about, but in reality I can't say I've ever looked at crownguards in my life. Unless you're comparing 1-1 and off wrist, it really does seem like a non-issue to me.

Its quite noticeable to me and for many others. I don’t think you can just dismiss it like that - not wishing to be confrontational, but it’s a weak defence of an expensive and inaccurate rep.

Crown guards is the very 1st thing I look at. It’s what I use to distinguish a good rep from a shit one. There are only 3 good Submariner reps IMO.. TC 16610 and VSF 11 and 12’s. Those are only ones to ever get them right.

I received my Clean 116610LN a few weeks ago and I am very impressed. Datewheel spot on, bezel turn very good, dial very good, bracelet on par with ARF. The movement is keeping great time, as accurate as any gen Rolex I have ever owned.

Well not all, as I got a sample with correct Crown guards, as I have described in detail in post #1057

I agree with what you and Streetfighter etc are saying.

And to be fair I actually am quite frustrated with and tired of this 2 steps from one right back thing.

But let’s be real here, every rep has it’s weakspots.
The Last VSF I handled left me very underwhelmed. But hey - maybe I got a bad one.

Not to say, cf is benchmark nor should they be considered how much money these factories make and their access to new technology that they’re not really willing to use.

In General and looking at the market offering we have right now, this is a solid watch. Or at least good enough the buy and wear until another update or better model comes out.

Last ZZF ( not even CF) vs gen:

Well said, we have to settle for the best copy out there, waiting for a better one. Unless you intend to opt for mods.

That’s weird bud. Not even the greatest enthusiasts check CG’s first, rep or gen. It’s not quite an aesthetical part like an insert, a dial or clasp, it’s there for its function. Sounds strange.

I myself check the dial, inserts, bracelet & clasp quality and maybe crystal firstly. I think VSF is only superior in its crystal (which is very important for me and one big con Clean has) and more or less equal on other parts with Clean versions

It's more from an authenticating a watch (in pics) point of view. It's a very easy to tell a fake Sub, first thing I look at the CG's and I go from there. In the past I could recognise which factory a Sub is from by the CG's.. (or I could, not today with all those hundreds of new factories).

The CG's is the case. the case is the watch. The rest you can fix or replace with better rep or gen parts. It's the chassis if you will. The starting point. If that is wrong, it's a fail from the get go. It's not just slanted CG's from the side view (that's a being too picky) it's the front view making up the shape of the watch you look at. Needs to be right.

Hey some folk obsess over other details.

If you want, we can chat rehaut and it never been right ever.. or hands.. or..

I agree. In real life, you’d just look at the dial/hands/insert and it should be clear if it s a rep or not (certainly under Loupe). However, guys on here are all about spotting reps in pics - which is a silly measure of how good or bad a rep is because:

1. Who cares what your rep looks like in pics unless you’re trying to pull it off a gen on instagram

2. It requires you to have spent ages studying gen vs rep pics to familiarise yourself what the differences are (who’s got time for that).

3. No point having good CGs or whatever if the hour markers, hands, print looks shit in real life

Yes.
Also how often would someone with decent conversation etiquette ask someone to hand out his/her watch, if it wasn’t topic of the conversation.
Bc if you can’t take a close look at it with having it in your hands, you are left with blatantly staring. And who would want to make someone standing opposite to himself that uncomfortable just to check for something that is neither your business nor should anyone care about it really.
Yes, there are straight giveaways like the cyclops etc. that you can spot from several meters away - but you would have to know what to look for and the lighting situation has to be right too.

I once tried to identify the authenticity of an SS/YG Datejust from the guy sitting across from me at our dinner table. And apart from what I mentioned above, you also have to factor in that the wearer most likely constantly moves his hands when talking.

And make no mistake, I know what to look for.
