The spot seems to be some residue from the original plating, and I rubbed it off softly with Cape Cod which it worked.

You can definitely consider re-plating but you'll have to make sure the color ends up exactly the same with the other parts and more so, like gen. Otherwise, it will look different.

Another option is just buy the parts separately (if available).

It depends on how many microns are plated onto the SS.
There aren't much information around but a quick google suggests people claiming BPF plates their watches around 5 microns. If Clean does 5 microns, this will last you for years.
