The problem is that you can’t replate it when something happens to original plating. It can only be replated when it is pristone and new, plating will not stick to damaged surface…
@Nikz19 can you confirm the statement above. Does the watch need to be replated right away and can it not be plated if its nicked or scratched. But then whats the point of plating at all if you cannot plate anything you want any time.

Confirm, in part.
You can plate over nicks and scratched. What you can’t plate is when the chinese plating has faded, because the layer beneath layer 1 (let’s call it layer 2) it is some sort of shit PVD and gold doesn’t stick on it.

That’s why it’s better to plate when new- when a replating fades the layer 1 (“plateable” one) shows and it can be replated again.

Great thank you. This is perhaps the most concise and clear answer i read to date on the matter of re-plating. Thanks. And with that a PM sent.

It may start inside but quickly spreads to the outside too and then it can be seen unfortunately…
@Yellobird

I agree that this is way too quick. I have had it fro 2 weeks only and worn it 2 times. Maybe i missed it in QC but it looks like its wet and the plating is slightly gone so getting it re-plated immediatly when you buy is eeesential. I was not expecting to be so quick. Now honest from a distance it looks like its scratched but thats i the OCD in me that catches it i would say. But for sure i am getting the replated.

Guys are you sure that it's fade?
Could it be only dirt?
Did you try to clean it with soap and water??
I ask it because i used mine several times in many situations like gym, sauna, swimming pool, starpool, showers, spa and when i sold it was as new.
I didn't have any faded zone.
It sounds a bit weird.

Hey @FiliGelli i was mine with water only not soap as i am worried that soap would eat away the plating and its still there sadly. Until now not a single piece of soap or any other material has come on it yet. So i was pretty shocked myself.

Btw may i ask as to why you sold it. I thought you were pretty happy with the watch looking at your responses in this thread.

Ok... hold on a minute. I understood that sweat can discolor gold plating and that after every wear that it should be cleaned with light soapy water.

I sold it only because it was too gen like to be worn safely in my city.
I got a clean 116503 as alternative and i'm using it as i used the 116518.

I can say that if you don't clean the watch with soap and water frequently you risk to damage the plating with the ph of your skin/sweat.
Keep the watch clean without using hard chemical agents is the receip to the wellness of the plating.
Plating it's not light as you think

Ok. I read to the contrary, that soap and water are not to be used on gold plating.

I never hear that youre not allowed to use soap to clean gold plating, i had a gold plated watch from GMF for almost a year and i did wash it like weekly and the gold plating never took any damage at all or got discolored.

I had the same issue on mine. This is not the plating going off but some residue from original plating.
Get cape cod and slowly rub it off, looks fine afterwards. That was what I did but please do it at your own risk.

I had the same issue with an hublot v6f rose gold one year ago and i fixed it like you did.
I used Duraglit.
I add that it's really hard to remove the plating.
Only a deep scratch can shows the steel

so i used soap with no chemical components (which is why i only had used water before) but still the same strange wet looking dark patch. I am guessing this will go away when i get it replated with Nikz

@och thanks for the suggestion. I was planning on getting it replated. I guess that would be more effective to get that spot out right?

@FiliGelli thanks for sharing the reason for the sell. Honestly sad to see that you could not enjoy of such a risk. thanks for the suggestion of duraglit as well. I was planning on getting it re-plated. I guess that would be more effective to get that spot out right?

Btw has anyone gotten a replating done by Nikz. i hear only great things. I am guessing that this service includes re-polishing the shiny parts and the not so shiny areas. How does this process really take place and how does he have the polishing done so well to reflect as it is now. Would hqve been greqt if there was soe, videos to watch showing the process
