I don't even know what I'm looking at any more. Will I get called out for my SEL? Should I just sell up to avoid the embarrassment?

You will be called out judging by your life style. If one's caught doing errands wearing a $50K street price watch, 99.99% it's gonna be fake.

That strap doesn't help, very few folks who wears gen would do that to an expensive watch!

I think my shitty 08 bimmer probably gives it away, haha. I wear all my watches including gens on straps and NATOs but this is the truest point, you are the biggest tell.

We can't get too carried away watching CRM Jewlers or Watch Eric on Youtube with all those gen watches driving around in Ferrari's & Prosche GT3s and owning million dollar yachts. Keep in mind these guys live & work in Miami, the Crypto currency capital of the world and use crypto trading to finance their lifestyle. Their lifestyle is NOT based on buying & selling in the luxury watch market. Sure they make a good living buying & selling luxury watches. But not enough to finance that kind of lifestyle. And God bless them for doing so.

Buddy of mine owns 2 gen DateJusts, gen Grand Seiko, all gold gen Carl Bucherer and a gen Omega Seamaster Pro Diver. Drives around in a 2020 Honda Accord. Different priorities.
That all costs less than one steel Daytona probably. There are lot of rich folks who own Honda or Toyota. It's not about just a car or something. I bought a gen Rolex when I was owning a Honda Accord. But today's market is different. To wear Daytona very casually, the guy needs to be loaded. Yes average guy can own Daytona but it'll be special watch and not worn like going grocery or something. There's a difference and who knows it will know.

I suppose it also depends on when you purchased the watch as well, I'm kicking myself for not picking up a ceramic LN Daytona for circa 15000CHF when I visited St Moritz and it was just sitting in the window, since it was just the going rate. I would be wearing that everyday if I'd bought it then, but now you seem to have to be more of a high roller to even consider that.

this is not about QC, it’s about dial color mate

yes I understand apart from the dial that the tone is the same as yours, only the angle of the light changes, I would like to understand why he rejected it, it seems ok to me.

I think it is a common misconception that the value of all things used and worn by a guy/girl must be equally expensive to authentically rock an expensive rep.

I drive a 2014 Skoda Fabia to work wearing ~ 1.200 € John Lobb Oxfords and high quality made to measure suits/shirts. Why? Because I don’t give a shit about the car for this 10km journey and can easily find a parking spot with anywhere in the city this little bastard and will not be bothered by any scratches.

I highly doubt anyone would question whether my watch is gen or not just because my car sucks. This is in particular true for a steel Daytona. Not considering current resale craziness, this is a 13.5k € watch. So most people who have not actually tried to buy one themselves will assume that you can get it for retail if you wait a few months or years and buy some bullshit for wifey at the AD during that period.

I also do not agree that „normal“ people would wear a Daytona grabbed for retail only on special occasions. I do not buy sneaker for resale prices (as I do not with watches) but still wear the shit out two pears of Jordans I copped retail that would cost well over 1k each in resale. Both Sneakers and watches are not assets for me but goods of daily use. The retail market does not affect the way how I use my stuff.

As soon as Nikz is done with my CF Daytona (have not heard from him during the last weeks, hope he is fine), I will report back if I have any issues pairing it up with the Skoda :) . If it feels as uncomfortable as suggested here, I will wear it only when traveling by taxi and on trackdays with my Porsche GT4 ;-)

To your point: Watches and other items such as sneakers, shoes, shirts, suits, etc are meant to be worn. If you're buying a gen Rolex to be kept in a safe for that special occasion that happens once or twice a year then you should've saved your money and bought something else. Therefore, I'm going to wear the shit out of my reps. That's why I bought them. And if people want to believe it's a rep and not a gen, that's fine. I really don't care.
