evaluate what you have, then proceed accordingly.

I evaluated that have the flu, and i'm no good at the bench while sick. So I will proceed to drink.

Whiskey when sick. Cheers.

not sure of your method, but For tubes that don't have hex threads inside, almost all reps for that matter, I uset a Kobalt #1 screw extractor. Remove tube's inner o rings and thread it in. of course clean the threads well first. I also use some epoxy on the threads after I first try it in the hole.

OK, here are 2
one with 18 on the date is my keeper
asian eta, bk dwo, tc hands, tc crown, TC strap, BP clasp
one with 19 is for sale now
high beat 21j, tc crown, relumed stock hands, BP strap, TC clasp

What is interesting is the sheen on the BP strap, it is brighter and whiter, if you are lucky, you get good SEL fit, clasp is hit and miss
TC strap is a bit duller but feels better, it had to be sanded on the sides to fit, but it goes in and stays without the spring bar !!!
Also look at the fit on the back of the case, amazing.

has anyone compared the clarks hands to TC ones? i know the lume is not as bright on clarks, but what about in regular daylight?

in particular, id be interested to see BP dial/ clarks hands combo, vs TC dial/hands combo. I think the dial looks really really close between the BP and TC that if clarks hands look just as good on stock dial, it will really save members some good coin !

Orca, i've fit clark hands on my BP dial and the result is wrong. BP dial markers are white/green and clark hands are so withe... only withe and no green luminova.. in the ligth day the difference is visible. there is contrast between opaque marker dial and withe hands .. I believe and hope TC hands should fit nice with BP dial ..

I hope someone confirms this

Ok... Here is what I know today. I have a thread pitch gauge. I am in the fastener industry. I bought Startime, Clark, WO, Otto, Esslinger tubes that are generic. They are .3 pitch. The BP cases/tubes that I have done are .5 pitch.

To confuse you more, I used .35 pitch tap into my BP case and that also worked.

WM9? Can you even buy from him anymore? I use TC. ;)

Summary. Gen should be .3. BP case and tube (the ones I worked on) were .5.

Your mileage may vary. If you start your tube into the case and get resistance, something is fecked up. ;)

Best thing to do IMHO, is evaluate what you have, then proceed accordingly.

R2, I thinking about doing the crown and tube mod. Is the c&t from TC the best bet?

Tc hands match

it looks like I will be going with the TC dial and hand set. this SD has such great potential, itd be a real shame if dial/hands didnt match perfectly.

In 3 years of rep collecting I've never known a thread to get so hung up on DW centration! But before we all get our knickers in a twist check out this Youtube vid of a gen...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sb8yaYzbukU

If I didn't know better his DW is slightly left justified also. And I had to chuckle when he was confused why his beautiful Rolex didn't change date until 12.06. Damn, my crappy fake changes at 12.01 :hehehe:

That made me laugh, the guy was starting to do my head in saying, "ok" all the bloody time lol

This is a bit overkill, but with reps sometimes you have to make due with the part that you have. The BP tubes i've come across have all been pretty chewed up. I like my diver reps to be waterproof, and as such the tube seal worried me. This is just a little mod you can do if you want or need.

Have another look to remind yourself how bad the stock BP tube on my SD looked.

I've been able to clean it up quite a bit, here is how.

Make sure you remove all gaskets inside and outside of the tube before starting. Using this dremel tool, you can debur the inside portion of the tube where the gasket inside of the crown will seat itself.

IMG_8723_zps43ba716b.jpg

Don't actually use the dremel to do the job, use your hands. As I spun this and ground around inside the tube, flakes of metal shavings and remnants came out. Once you get it relatively cleaned up, you can proceed with polishing it.

I'm not squeezing the threads hard with the wrench. The wrench is just protecting me from being burned. This is a spare tube I was experimenting with while waiting for the different tube that accepts a genuine crown. Tape the wrench head off or use a softer tool, protect your threads.

Use a stick of stainless steel buffing compound and buffing wheel on your dremel. Press the tube into the head of the buffing wheel. Make sure not to press too hard, the buffing wheel is held in place by a screw. Here's after some buffing

By the time I was done, the tube shined like a mirror. Hard to photograph with a flash.

I went over the threads lightly as well. The crown/tube is much smoother to operate now.

You didn't have to trim the dial or the case did you? I've read some people say you need to and some say no need to.

Went right in, T. It's going to vary case by case. No pun intended. :gotgoat:

So. My gen insert isn't playing nicely and looks like it will need some sanding/modding to get it to fit, rob and Gary had a look and Gary said he doesn't want to risk it.. So any ideas on who can do the work in the U.S of A before it gets shipped back down under?

Hmmm.... I am ordering a TC crown and tube set, but I tempted to go gen. This leads to a bunch of other questions:

1. I found of used gen rolex crown & tube sets on eBay in good nick in the $150-200 range. Is this the going rate?

2. Can anyone confirm that the correct crown and tube is part no. 24-7030 (7mm trip-lock crown)?

3. I understand the tube on the on the gen is a bit larger than the TC and BP tube on the end that screw into the case. However, will a gen crown screw down properly on a TC tube?? Obviously if the threads are different, I have problems....if not, I will use a TC tube with a gen crown and hopefully save a few $$$$.

4. What is a reasonable price for a watch smith to charge to swap a crown and tube...with and without drilling the case to fit a larger tube???

I am sure I saw this discussed somewhere in this thread, but the seach hasn't been my friend. This thread is too freakin to easily such specific info. :)

I am sure thus has been discussed, but this thread is way too huge to find such specific info. :). I actually think R2D4 was kind of suggesting this would work a couple of days ago, but I don't know what you mean by pitch variance. If you can dumb it down for a simpleton like me, that would be awesome! :)

That's the correct crown part number and the price is about average. The gen tube will not fit the TC case without modifications. Price for changing the crown shouldn't be more than $15 - 20. Modification of case and re-tapping threads could be $100 or more. AFAIK, the gen crown will fit the TC case, but that needs confirmation from someone who's done it.
