Getting To Know The Place

Just a heads up for those planning a Crown-Tube swap with TC's or Gen/Clarks equiv.

The BP case is drilled and tapped to accept an M3 X.35 Pitch tube. The TC tube and the Aftermarket Gen tubes are M3 X .3. While this might not sound like a big difference, it is actually a "no-go" without the proper threads. I contacted CaskerCo about this because Otto, Casker, Esslingler all sell a .35 pitch tap, which will not work with their .3 ptich tubes. .35 is an IFI standard size which explains why they all carry them. Esslinger probably thought I was nuts and replied that they can get the .3 pitch if "I" wanted them too. lol, I bought tubes from all of them. They are all .3 pitch. So they can do what they need to do but..me.. I vote for the proper threads in the case.

Don't believe me? Buy a thread pitch gauge and see for yourself. ;)

I re-tapped the case to .3 from a .35, it's not ideal but it holds extremely well if you do this correctly. The TC and the Gen tubes are longer than the rep anyway, so you have twice the thread engagement into the case.
Thank you for this info, I was about to order TC set to have installed!

You want my honest to goodness opinion on the matter? (Assuming you do.. lol)

I would only replace the DWO if the specimen you receive is out of alignment (more than 6-7 days) from the factory. This is from a (45yo) guy who is near sighted. I cannot tell a discernible difference at an arms length. The TC might be better but unless you plan on 20/20'ing the watch all the time, it won't really be appreciable upgrade if all of your dates line up out of the gate. (went to the horse track, figured I would throw in a pun. ;) Date... gate? get it? )

Luckily my DWO was perfect but, the one in my gen rolex is left justified! Go figure......

A dw can be misaligned for different reasons.

Sometimes it is the print on the dwo. Sometimes the dial is installed wrong.

My friend has a gen sub 16610 with misaligned bezel insert that his AD installed.

Both are other good reasons to leave it be. ;) Take off your spectacles and relax the testicles. ;) Wear the watch, the date is fine.

I'm just going to go ahead and ask before I browse every TD page. Is there a TD that is offering the best bang for the buck?

Thanks!

Thank's Big guy! So i take it you had to drill the case and retape the case to get the tube to fit??

I have learned so much while working with this watch! And I might add I positively love this watch and I wonder if this will completely go away in time and be impossible to get or if they'll continue to be available for years? Regardless this is one I'll remember for years....

This watch is sleeper, it always has been. I had one of the original good ones and sold it. I have regretted it since. This time... I should keep it.

The pearl was the first thing I dealt with.... I'm currently waiting on TC to send the dial and hands,,,that's next! But this watch really looks great from the box.. I sure wish they could get a sub-c this close from the door. Most def a pleasure to work with.

And I guess I'm lucky about the DW cause I don't think I could do better them where I'm already at.
