Are you going to have to counter sink for the Gen 703 tube? I know it has a small bevel on the back side of the tube that has to be counter sunk for the tube to sit flush on the case? In order for the crown to screw down to the case with little gap?,,I had to do a gen 703 tube this way because I was stubborn and didn't want to use WSO tube! Is the gen 703 different now? You do your own Crown guards?

I'm getting ready to do crown upgrade on mine as well?...and thinking of changing the 2836 I put in it recently for a TC 2824- 2 H4 with BK DWO and top it off with TCV3 hands

From what I can see when I put the Gen 703 tube next to the WSO tube they look the same.
I didn't really understand what you meant. Did you 703 Gen tube fit without modding the case or did you have to mod the case for it to fit?

All I remember is the modder said it was a older gen tube and he had to recess the flange on the tube to sit flush with the case because the gen SD crown screwed down close to the case with little gap...and if I wanted to mimic that on my build he had to take out a little material around the tube threads. If we didn't do that then the gap be evident..
Personal preference what it comes down to...and I'm a stickler for the details

So he modified the tube not the case?

It takes very very little material off to recess that flange. I see a lot of members using gen tubes on there build and the gap be to wide and push the crown out further IE. Making the crown guards look shorter in the process. This old trick I was taught by old school modder back in the Day. But there's not a huge difference it's only something like anal assholes like me care about..lol
TC old tubes used to thread gen 703 crown on it nicely? I haven't tried it in years ? But TC tube didn't used to have this flange and would seat down in the case nicely with minimum gap in the gen crown? But someone told me recently TC newer tube didn't thread to well with gen 703 crown anymore? I couldn't imagine why he change the threads on his tubes?

Have you ever had a 5 or 6 digit buddy gen? :)

The curve that you will remove is essential to have a gen like appearance and only the genuine tube can give this

I'm sorry but I personally saw WSO, Phong, and TC tube and none of them is like gen.

In BP SD cases you need to re work the thread to fit the TC or Genuine tube, otherwise it will not fit directly.

The little gap you are talking about is necessary to look like a genuine one.

With my TC tube i ask to my modder to fit it to the case to have this effect especially.

If you mod the genuine tube you will have the crown attached to the case when it is screwed down, and this is wrong, as in TC subs.

This is the tube gen. If you eliminate that angle you will go away that effect. Anyway I currently have TC tube and crown that will sell as soon as it is matte tube and crown genuine :)

All I'm saying is when you retap the BPSD case? Make sure the gen tube seats down in the case correctly. And all I could find is a WSO picture above to show the flange I was talking about which gen tubes does have. I never said WSO,TC Clarks, etc was the same construction as gen 703 tube?
And the gap is very minimum on gen 16600, 16660 let's look at what I'm saying here
Screenshot_20170615-074617.png Screenshot_20170615-074613.png Screenshot_20170615-074539.png Screenshot_20170615-074544.png Screenshot_20170615-074457.png Screenshot_20170615-074426.png Screenshot_20170615-074418.png Screenshot_20170615-074617.png Screenshot_20170615-074613.png Screenshot_20170615-074539.png Screenshot_20170615-074539.png Screenshot_20170615-074544.png Screenshot_20170615-074457.png
Screenshot_20170615-074426.png
Screenshot_20170615-074418.png

And I'm NOT talking about modding the tube?? I'm simply talking about proper retaping the case in order for the gen 703 tube to seat properly in the case?
My modder had to take off a little extra material at the mouth of the thread on the case to get desired effect?
See here how that flange is recessed in the gen case slightly?
Screenshot_20170615-081004.png
Screenshot_20170615-081041.png
This is what I'm talking about^^^^^
I never said anything about the crown touching the case? I'm simply saying there is minimum small gap in gen counter part, And if this gen 703 tube isn't properly seated in the BPSD case correctly that gap will be bigger and it won't look right :)

I'm in doubt keeping the SD or selling it.

Keep it, unless you urgently need funds.
You'll regret selling it, I can tell by your activity in this thread that you love the 5 digit SD.

Yeah I do love it. It would be a thing to built one again (don't believe TC is selling any parts).

To clarify on Gen tube fitting to a BP SD, firstly the case needs counter boring, not countersinking. There is a differnce, the counterbore is 4mm x 0.7 mm deep and is flat bottomed, hence the term " counterbored" others may call this "spot faced "rather than counterbored. Either way it is not countersunk.

As we are aware the SD has a triple lock crown fitted, this means there are three seal areas on the crown. they are as follows 1) the O-ring inside the crown itself fitted around the clutch stem which seals to the top of the case tube when screwed down. 2) the two O-rings within the case tube itself, which seal on the clutch stem and the 3rd being the O-ring just below the external threading on the case tube.

Now here is where the confusion arises, as there is a fourth seal, which is the one we're discussing above, the one directly between the case tube and case. This is classed as a case part and not part of the "triple lock" crown system as such

The depth and diameter of the counterbore is actually quite critical, if it's not deep enough you will crush the O-ring and split it rendering it ineffective, if it's too deep it won't compress the O-Ring and effect the seal.

The counterbored hole in the case at 4mm dia keeps the seal in place laterally and as the case tube screws in and compresses the seal it does it two dimensionally both width ways and depth way, so as we tighten the case tube into the case the O-ring expands in diameter sealing against the outer wall of the counterbore and also compresses to form a seal between the bottom of the case tube and the bottom of the counterbore

And for this reason a countersunk hole is not effective

Hope this helps

That was an awesome explanation! The only one I have heard so far that explains it clearly and accurately!
