Here's the absolute cheapest way to go. Duct tape to open the case back. Small screwdriver to remove the movement tabs. 1.2mm screwdriver to remove the crown/stem (assuming an ETA/clone). Hand removal tool to remove hands. Small screwdriver to loosen dial feet retainers. You can use any number of things to replace the hands including a ball point pen insert, a small coffee stir from McDonalds, and a round wooden toothpick cut in half works fine for the second hand. It's recommended to remove the rotor first if you're doing any serious movement work.
3M Sticky notes work fine for both dial protectors and the sticky edge can help you re-install the hands.
