The forum says it is important to find rep friendly watchsmiths. I think the reason is some of them are resentful because they spent years mastering work on low end watches with basic constructions just to have somebody suddenly come in and talk like an expert from reading the forums about more advanced higher end horological mechanics. he could have reported you for having a gen crystal.

I brought a gen crystal and rep case to 2 different watchsmiths. One was like super angry and called somebody on the phone reading off the bottom rehaut numbers to verify. The other didn’t understand how I had a gen crystal and kept calling it aftermarket

What do you guys think? Are these watchsmiths bitter or what?

Clean your watch ASAP because the contamination will permeate and ruin all the parts. Best,

Sick photos by Mr Heuristics!! I just approved my QC and my bro too. Looking forward to see it on the flesh. I’ve been anti subc, pro 5 digit, because of the chunky case. Had a few subc LNs and flipped them for TC and never really gave the hulk much respect. But this looks bout it and even if it doesn’t sit well on skinny wrist, it’ll looks great in the watch box collection! Lol.

xxBlack you can always get a pearl, make a pearl, or buy a whole new insert. It would suck to spend 80+ bucks on an insert for just a few dollar pip but it’s not bad. Maybe it’s time to go gen insert.

Very nice is he using 904l wire?.. but to do that angled cg work you need CNC milling machine and titl the mill up to gen degrees cause you cant hand shape the cg and have a uniform result, you can just poolish it at the end by hand but not make that radius.. im curious to see the result after the poolish to see if sings left by the work pop up. Btw great job and great idea

KJ2020 thanks for the kind words. In answer to the question, it’s definitely possible. After welding you would mill the radius but only so far because the case side taper / angle changes as it runs into the crown guard. It would most likely need to be properly hand filed finished, then diamond filed, very carefully felt buffed and then polished only a few passes to keep the sharper lines of the new maxi cases. Obviously the older 4 and 5 digit cases are a bit easier to do. 904 wire isn’t easy to come by at the moment but after it’s been mirror polished you can’t tell the difference between 316 and 904 anyway

You are the right person to ask what is crystal ring and where its located on the watch? Is it same as crystal gasket or smt else?

The crystal ring/retainer pressure fits the crystal and gasket to the case buddy. The bezel then clips over the retainer.

Keep your subjective opinion and your immagination about me reading the forum to talk like a mechanic expert to yourself. that man has done a good artisan work, its not easy to manually fillet two differently inclined sides of the case (when the height of the case and cg also are slightly angled) to make it look like cnc milled ones.. it only takes a bit more hand pressure to ruin all the work
