Delighted some new 5-digits are coming out - though shame about that date font.

Check out the movement, SH3135 or VR3135? Anyone?

VR has the gold colored balance staff shock absorber block and a blue hairspring. Easy ID.

i would love to own a kermit but…

$488.00

fat DW
unreliable movement?
wrong steel type in comparison to gen

why would you buy this?

to be honest while waiting for the experts here to make a review of this watch i think price of this piece and what will cost you for modding it to have an iconique watch like this is irrelevant.
DW can be changed along with the movement by replacing it with the VR. as for the steel type i am quoting from bobswatches website for the history of the rolex submariner:

"
Additionally, since the late 1980s, Rolex has used 904L stainless steel (now known as “Oystersteel”) for the construction of its Submariner dive watches. This ultra corrosion-resistant steel is almost exclusively used within the aerospace and chemical industries, and is able to take on a remarkable shine when polished. In fact, no other company in the world except Rolex has the expertise or economies of scale to use this exclusive material for everyday timepieces."

I thought this watch had the correct steel. Rolex started using 904L back in the late 80s and I think the 16610 was one the first to get 904L

First two points valid. Last point, you need to go research before stating fake news!
I agree though this is overpriced and doesn’t look that great overall.

This update is disapointing.

Pearl is horrendous
Dial is meh
DW is still horrible
Hands are flat(why didn't they upadte with the same finich they use on 6 digits?)
Clasp seems a tad better, but engraving are wrongs (and not corresponding the one on SEL)

I had a Franken Kermit that I lovingly built and it was stolen. Looking forward to a good quality new release so I can rebuild! Hoping for a better quality clasp and recessed SEL. JF never did a good job with these.

DW can be replaced and the part is straightforward to get.

Edit; just sent the photos on puretime. SELs look better, case shape looks nice, date wheel is laughable but can be replaced. SH3135, the keyless works can be problematic and sometimes fitting a gen DW can be hit and miss.

Does anyone else think the hands look flat and not rounded?

I’d love to hear what smoke thinks of this!
