The dials are pretty close to gen, not far off. Therefore, go on youtube look at some videos (photos are misleading imo) of blue / black DJ's and pick the one you like the best. Personally, black vs blue. I would go black if it's going to be your only Rolex and Blue if not. Although the best colour in my opinion is Rhodium (dark grey).

The reason I say dont go black if you plan to get more Rolex is that all the sports models are black... GMT, SUB, SEA DWELLER etc.

+1 for Rhodium Dial. Second would be Blue for uniqueness (as previous post mentioned)

RZF - Cheap bracelet, SELs are terrible, case is wrong, dial quality (print/color) is questionable. They use a so called 3235 movement with no history of reliability. Have seem pics with bad DW font.

I just bought a gen wimbledon, arrived yesterday... and I'll be honest... I spent literally an hour or two going back and forth between pictures of my RZF (sold) and my gen- wondering if the seller put an RZF dial on it! Now, I was very tired and in a bad mood lol, and maybe it was the lighting, but I was shocked at how long it took me. In the end, the difference was in certain indoor lighting that the RZF has a more purple tone in pictures than in real life, and the gen in real life actually has a sort of purplish tone but pictures make it look more grey. Also, my RZF bracelet was actually good. I think they're hit and miss tho.

My initial experience was the inverse of how I normally feel about reps and gens lol... I get why some people hate on reps cus they're so close and it makes one question themselves for the amount of money it cost them haha.

Anyways, now that I'm well rested and in a good mood- totally worth it!

And back on to the topic of ARF- ARF did a really good job with their fluted bezel. Gen does shine different though. Pretty sure my ARFs didn't give a light show like this... but I dont remember for sure http://imgur.com/a/q9ngbDn

I think blue with jubilee and fluted bezel is definitely the most versatile in terms of being able to be dressed up or dressed down. But the rhodium has the most character to it... to use a word that doesn't really mean anything but makes sense anyways in this context lol.

Firstly enjoy the Wimbledon, wear in good health!! You have got a good taste ;)
You must have had a good QC on the RZF. I got one but sold it to a friend as soon as I got the ARF (all the issues that I mentioned already). On the topic of bezel, the ARFs are SS (some say it is Rhodium plated but I don't have proof) which will shine (Rhodium plating helps) but will never do the "light dance" as WG. When I handle my wife's gen bezel, I am always reminded that reps will not reach that level of exactness.

Thanks man! Yeah I was driving and with the sun like it was, it felt like a strobe light going off in the car. Lol never experienced that before. But nevertheless, outside of the slight color hue and the light dance, ARF did a really good job!

If RZF is good then DJF Wimbledon must be better than gen lol

The one I got was good for sure.
and that purplish color doesn't really show like that in real life.

Anyways, the moral of the story is- for anyone who has not seen this dial in real life- is that it is pretty different than in pictures. Either gen or rep.

Maybe I'm skewed cus I've been fantasizing about this watch for almost a year. Maybe I expected it to actually be "magical." And then I opened it in the same spot in my house as when I excitedly opened my rep when it arrived, and my experience was more or less the same... which is actually a disappointment considering the 30x price difference.

But it's kinda like this. You watch porn as a young'n. You have sex for your first time and you realize its not what you imagined and maybe it's a disappointment even if its awesome. But then you realize the real thing is actually better lol.

In some ways though, the fantasy is still better... even tho nothing beats the real thing. Similarly, I can say that in certain low level, indoor lighting that it is a disappointment plain and simple. BUT in almost all other scenarios it is quite remarkable. For a while today it was a little overcast. And I just kept walking around outside, intently looking at my watch and oblivious to the outside world- like a teenage glued to their Instagram on their cell phone lol.

What you think about this aftermarket $300?

I've seen that one online. Not sure tbh. However, my rule of thumb is to avoid aftermarket dials if the gen is available at a reasonable price. However, "reasonable" is subjective obviously. I also have zero experience with aftermarket dials besides rep dials. So what I'm saying is just based on my own logic of what to spend money on, and nothing else.

I coincidentally just posted some aftermarket dials I was wondering about too in the Daytona thread lol

I saw that thread lol I was just looking some gen Daytona dials, surprisingly they can be found at “reasonable” price too (around 1.2k, not so expensive for gen Daytona)

That story sound almost like when I got the gen 116613LB, having the ARF at home. Sure, Rolex have a hardly noticable better finnish in every aspect but still, with that pricetag Rolex are in fact extremly over priced.

Just because the gen has a certain dial color you want to believe that it's magic from every angle when in fact Rolex could just as well have choose a color like the rep. And if they did, we would say that dial is perfect/magic.

So in conclusion. The gen dial is not as magic as we want to believe (imo) when compared to high-end reps. Dials are an over priced thing made of a "cheap" material like plastic/metallic coating or whatever. Our head makes up that it's perfect in every aspect since it's made by Rolex. And remember, Rolex do also have imperfection despite of their x30 price.

I saw that on eBay and have been scoping out that company that makes custom dials. I’ve been thinking the color looks really good. It’s a nice silver like it’s supposed to be instead of that rhodium with a brown (or purple) tint to it.

When I wanted to build a Wimbledon, I contemplated the same thing as I didn’t want to dump a grand into a dial when there are some good gen options for a fraction of the cost.

Actually the ARF is rather good in that aspect you just have to make sure its clean. But i also heard that the gen bezel is also getting dirty fast and oftne needs a proper cleaning. not sure if thats right though.

I’m sure. Same with polished center links. They accumulate a lot of dirt, dust, and fingerprints.

Is there actually a easy way to brush the brushed part of the jubilee bracelet? And with what tool to Get the same finish?
