He makes a valid point. It’s not possible to be bothered by something you don’t notice.

To answer your more general question, at this point it’s too early to tell which of the RM055 offerings is “best” at this point. There’s what we know so far:

  • ZF version: uses DD movement but doesn’t have brushed ribs. Carbon on case is reasonable (might be superior to the carbon used by YSF/RMF). ZF is the only factory (so far) to offer a ceramic case version). ZF is quite expensive (over $1000) but has now come down to around $850.
  • APSF version: uses DD movement and has brushed ribs. Carbon looks good, possibly better than ZF but that could be due to the examples we’ve seen in videos comparing the two so far — forged carbon has a random element in its appearance just like meteorite dials. Is priced at around $870.
  • RMF/YSF (it’s unclear if these are the same or two different factories). This version uses a non-DD movement (possibly a Shanghai movement). The movement has brushed ribs and has the correct rib extension on the back side. But we have no information about reliability or construction quality of the two RMUL2 movements, so it’s not possible to say which option is better. The carbon of this option’s case has been judged by folks here to be inferior to the ZF or APSF version, but still not bad objectively. The RMF/YSF version is priced around $650.
  • BBR has made several iterations. None of the BBR version use the new clone movements we’ve seen from ZF, APSF, nor RMF/YSF. The earlier versions from BBR had reliability issues and second hand stutter issues. The most recent version from BBR has not had the reliability issues, but since this watch is a skeletal design, the fact the movement is obviously not a clone makes BBR a poor choice in the current market. The BBR sells for around $580 but we should expect to see that price fall as the market adapts to the reality of the superior offerings from Zf, APSF, and YSF/RMF.
You are always so kind and patient and supportive

I thought APSF has not brushed ribs like the ZF. In your post you say it does?

Zoom in, you can see that APSF doesn't have brushed ribs.
It apparently uses thinner paint than ZF, and is oversprayed at some edges.

if you talk about zooming in then please do it yourself and you can see the brushed surface of the apparently applied metal ribs. In the pictures they appear to be over exposed but they are brushed - that's the whole point of adding metal on top of the painted parts.

not applied like you suggest
You can clearly see the rounded edges of the brushed parts that result from stamping very thin sheet metal or even decals - it doesn't have to be flat to be brushed or vise versa - if you're familiar with the process you'd know that there are different abrasives to achieve a brushed surface finish.

What you refer to as a mask is the already painted part underneath - the applied portion doesn't always fit or is misaligned.

It's ok to be not entirely right.

This is the same movement as ZF uses, so you're saying they changed the mold to be rib less, then applied foil ribs over masked off areas.
Could be.
Yes, there are different brushing techniques, but the genuine 055 uses directional brushing that results in a flat surface with sharp edges, this isn't that.

It's so damn close to the gen unless you look at your new watch with a microscope, don't see the point of trying to see these tiny flaws lol. For me I am not trying to trick anyone into believing I own a gen, I just want a cool looking RM watch for a fraction of the price. I just ordered the RMF factory RM055 cost less than $500USD from biao lol

People are insane now. Noone will ever be happy unless they release a perfect 1:1 vaucher clone with markings in a gen RM box and gen strap for 300 dollars 😂
Agreed. I think everyone in this thread that’s nitpicking is forgetting the biggest tell on both the ZF, APSF, YSF/RMF, and even the BBR — the biggest tell that it’s a rep is the person wearing it.

Guys, let’s enjoy these watches for what they are, don’t hate on them for what they aren’t.

I'm just here to learn.

If this is overspray, can a person remove the crystal / casebook and scrape it off delicately? If you're that picky. The longer I am I the watch game, the more these watches tend to grow on me considering what goes into movement.

ahh yesss the convo that comes us every thread. us mortals should close our eyes and never question what our Chinese god rep factories bestow upon us through their AD vessels.

Heaven forbid we talk about flaws on a forum about said rep
