To answer your more general question, at this point it’s too early to tell which of the RM055 offerings is “best” at this point. There’s what we know so far:
- ZF version: uses DD movement but doesn’t have brushed ribs. Carbon on case is reasonable (might be superior to the carbon used by YSF/RMF). ZF is the only factory (so far) to offer a ceramic case version). ZF is quite expensive (over $1000) but has now come down to around $850.
- APSF version: uses DD movement and has brushed ribs. Carbon looks good, possibly better than ZF but that could be due to the examples we’ve seen in videos comparing the two so far — forged carbon has a random element in its appearance just like meteorite dials. Is priced at around $870.
- RMF/YSF (it’s unclear if these are the same or two different factories). This version uses a non-DD movement (possibly a Shanghai movement). The movement has brushed ribs and has the correct rib extension on the back side. But we have no information about reliability or construction quality of the two RMUL2 movements, so it’s not possible to say which option is better. The carbon of this option’s case has been judged by folks here to be inferior to the ZF or APSF version, but still not bad objectively. The RMF/YSF version is priced around $650.
- BBR has made several iterations. None of the BBR version use the new clone movements we’ve seen from ZF, APSF, nor RMF/YSF. The earlier versions from BBR had reliability issues and second hand stutter issues. The most recent version from BBR has not had the reliability issues, but since this watch is a skeletal design, the fact the movement is obviously not a clone makes BBR a poor choice in the current market. The BBR sells for around $580 but we should expect to see that price fall as the market adapts to the reality of the superior offerings from Zf, APSF, and YSF/RMF.
