I was laughing at this

Glad you caught it.

I originally came on board to find a nice DJ to replace one that I lost to the bottom of Biscayne Bay, shiffaced, at a Jimmy Buffett concert on a sailboat at the Miami Marine Stadium.

After being here for a while. I ended up with three DJ frankens, each as nice as the one I lost. All with Swiss ETA movements that are in my opinion, 99% as good as the Rolex equivalent. And they didn't cost me as much as one used gen.

Can't see where I've gone wrong.

My collection mostly came from the 2nd hand market. You can find some real good deals there. I have the sub $100's and a few near the $400 mark with most in the mid 200 to 300s. I sold a lot of the cheapies to get some of the newer better built models.

I feel the same when I wear my 21J SOSF and the swiss Wolfie. I just like the look of the watch but the more expensive watches just have such beautiful details which the lower end ones can't match. Very often I just can't help but stare at them and admire how something built in a small shack by kids who don't even know much about watches can be so beautiful and .... functional!

It's like some people are perfectly happy driving a Mazda and some just can't drive anything but Porsche. Some can't understand why others would spend so much on a car and never will. The Porsche guy can't and will never understand why anyone drives anything but Porsche. Which is perfectly fine. To each their own as long as they are happy and don't trash others for not thinking like them.

You buy cheap you buy twice. As a true WIS you enjoy a nice "quality" rep a lot more than shitindahand.

I'm superhappy with all the super reps coming out. But I agree, above $300+ I have to think about it as well.

Which I just did and ordered the new SOSF V2!!

I still have reps I paid $60 - $80 for 8 - 10 years ago that keep perfect time. I've been looking at the sale section on this board and am seeing reps for $500, $950, $1600?!?!

Let's call it exactly what it is. A grand or a grand and a half for a used second hand fake watch??

Not the reason I started collecting. I'll keep my sub $100 watches thanks very much, in fact I'll keep 10 - 15 of them for variety.
It's just getting silly now :picard:

^I definitely agree. Some guys are selling completely stock wm9's for $900-1300. WTF, they're a used fake watch. They don't age like fine wine.

Per your request:...>>>

Its all about what level of nearness to perfection you want, and its a thread that shows up all of the time. I dont need to be inside the 98% mark. And Ive been looking at that same Pam 024 from Toro, so let us know how it is.

Signed,
thedoover - a fellow bottomfeeder
The 024 arrived a few days ago.....It is solidly built, with a crisp lever, very decent lume(at least 6 hours!!), a very nice rubber strap, (with a decent leather alternate now available!!), it has two glaring flaws that would perhaps turn off those with "repanalitis"though...The case is brushed rather than bright polished(which makes more sense on a dive watch IMHO), and the caseback is not an 024 model, but one from the 199 with the "Laureus"verbiage on the edges..
After 4 days of constant wear, the 21j movement is within 5-10 seconds of where I set it using my phone...
All in all, except for the 2 major "flaws" it is a very solid watch you'd expect to pay at least twice as much for elsewhere..!!

Prices have been partially going up due to exchange rates to the USD/Euro and because the labor costs are going up for many parts of Asia...

Most get passed along to the consumer.

Just sayin'....

I am in between. I wont settle for the cheaper non sapphire watches but wont go over 300 either. I think when you can get super pams for around 250 which not many people could tell the difference and they should last you for years, what is the point in spending more.. These frankens are still fakes that can be told apart from the 250 reps almost as easily and they are nearly half the price of the cheaper gen pams.

There's been a couple of posts just in the last couple of days where guys have been called out for adding $100 + mark-ups to watches identified from TD's.

I do agree about rising costs in Asia, but $1600 fake watches?!?!?!. How long before someone asks over $2000.............. or even $3000 for a fake watch.

That's the good thing about having choice, people can buy $500, $1000, $1600 watches or whatever. It just seems to defeat the whole purpose to me to spend that much on a fake watch :lolcina:

Links?

Not trying to be difficult, I'm just aware that prices have gone up across the board, not just reps. Seriously, links would be great.

Just look on the sales replica watch section of this very forum. Lots of watches for $500, at least one for $950 & $1600, just this week

With the ridiculous prices these frankens are going for, I should put my gen PO up for sale here. I would only be $1k more than these guys are asking for a rep, lol.

I think that reps have an inherent "sketchy" nature, you might look at the 400USD asking price on the TD's website, but there's a lot of "hidden fees" that will come with it:
1.- If it's soo cool that you actually spent 400 USD on it you might want to have it serviced so it "lasts a lifetime" (add 150 USD).
2.- Maybe relumed and waterproofing, a different AR tone maybe? (add 100 USD).
Then your watch is now a 700USD investment and my biggest problem with this is that no matter what you do to it it will always be a fake watch.
But this is only my opinion, your mileage may vary.

True, but when the gen costs 24,000 as in AP's then you have to think it's money well spent.

Not exactly, cheap reps are worth it. $60.....$80.....$100 for a watch that tells accurate time, looks decent, has lasted me 8 years and counting for the same price as a Timex or Casio = worth it.

$500...........$2000 for an expensive fake watch = not worth it.

That's just my opinion

Anything is worth it if you find enjoyment and value in it. There will always be the plain Jane Rolex but there is also a growing want for hyper reps. So as long as they keep the spectrum there shouldn't be any problems. I am looking for a cheap rolex but it also needs to be like the gen. Same thing w the ap roo survivor I wanted a rep but the rep with secs at 12 and an automatic seconds hand still ran me 600. That is still a good deal because the gen is 50k dollars.
