Actually I wrote that in reference to the fact you kept repeating your opinion over and over again to the forum hence I said "we get it.. "

But that is a classic thing to say on a forum when you got nothing else left. What next? You gonna attack my grammar?

Yeah. Almost as good as adding silly pics or calling someone a troll that doesn't agree with your point of view. It's pretty obvious what this thread's about, even from the title. I apologize for making you read and reply to my redundant comments over and over again. I guess I hit on a theme that interests me and open up the discussion with similar points, when what we really need is more Pam photos and lume shots ( that's a joke by the way) :lolcina:

If people call you a troll its because you are acting like one. It has nothing to do with your point of view.

Your remarks bait people into arguing with you. I'm sure you know.

If only they made one with an orange dial, a NATO strap and a cyclops date window. That would be my ultimate rep watch :biglaugh:

Oh okay. I made you come here and argue with me :biglaugh:

I also hate Phillysteak sandwiches. They give me terrible heartburn :lol1:

I've laid out logical reasons with some wry observations and humor, people come back with one word answers or smilies............. but I'm the troll. Great logic and debating skills there

I also countered argued. Too bad you skipped over it quickly. I can tell cause you think I said I spent $4k on a rep..?

As for you stating logical thought out posts???? Really? Reasoning based on what exactly? All I heard is what's the point and buy a Timex.

Anyways,

Denial is the first step to troll recovery. We are here for you.

I took this to mean you've spent up to $4K on a rep

"I've also bought $100 gens, $500 gens, $1K+ to $3k to now $4k+ gens. I haven't broken the $5k yet though."

You're right I didn't read it properly, multi-tasking .............

Here you go. Feel free to comment as you like. BTW, I'm not 'so proud of them', they are what they are.

This one is my latest favorite

........and another thing I don't get is watch lume. Why does it have to be so bright? It hurts my eyes and makes my eyebrows curl up. Which is really annoying. Have you ever had your eyebrows curl up? I have, and it's annoying...........

That was an excellent Andy Rooney impression, worth the price

of the thread :lol1:

@Frank: Whichever fora ( forums to me ) you are visiting, just make sure you STAY on this one.........ok?

Well, as a Noob in here I might add my 0.02 here.

I'm focussed on the Rolex and associated brands.
I started with 4 cheap reps in around 2002 and went to gens in 2006.
From taste I'm a little aside the mainstream and like "clean dials" as in Ex 1, Oyster No-Date, SubND and if it has to be a chrono, pre-Daytona is the max "dial fuzzing"

I started the gens with low value ones but soon reached full set 1803 or single watches serviced in Geneva for $2K. Luckily I didn't sell a single gen for less than it's costed me, even if I had transcontinental flights to collect them. So finally I ended up with more than 5 dozen gens and decided that this isn't the way I wanted to store my money. So I started selling some time ago, but as I do it slowly still a lot of them stay with me (or better with my bank deposit box ).

I don't know what it brought me to the rep forums but I think it was the idea of building watches from their parts and I stumbled over the possibility to combine my accumulated gen parts with rep parts.
As a kind of watch-tourette victim I couldn't resist immediately buying some reps I liked from members of different forums (already recieved the 2) and different TDs (expecting 2 tomorrow, 2 next week).
For the selection there were relevant:
- my old addiction -> ETA ExI 114270 - sold the gen, bought a rep
- never had a GMT -> got a ETA GMT IIc rep wearing right now
- my daily beater - expecting a asian ETA rep 16600 to replace my gen
- DDs are nice -> asian ETA 218206 with special plain dial to have an understatement dresswatch not to be recognized by many:whistle:
- vintage Milgauss 6541 -> would have been a gen dream watch, first target to a smooth vintage age modding and also not often seen in the rep forums
- Milgauss 116400BD -> 21j version just to split shipping to more than one watch, never was attracted by the MIG, may be this will be a catch and release or a love for life...

Generally I just will replace the rep crystals with new ones without etched crown where existing as the rep crowns are too large and too easy to spot.
If this doubles the cost of the rep it doesn't matter for me, it enhances the value!

My most expensive rep project is a GMT 1675 in a version I didn't spot in the rep forums until now. I'm still in the parts decision and collection phase, but this might sum up to >$500 for 100% rep finally.
I also will build some DJ frankens as I have a good collection of gen dials and bought some gen cases.

So basically I buy the reps of watches I like to wear.
If they are close to gen it's fine, if not, some details I'll change because they are too obvious for me (etched crown), others are depending on the watch (e.g. bracelet: solid mid links on GMT IIc are ok for cheap every day wear - here I also think to stay with original crystal -, wouldn't accept wrong bracelet details on my special 1675 project).

But collecting reps definitely has to be a thing which is cheaper as collecting gens!
My cheapest gen Rolex is a 1922 9kt gold Ladys Rolex bought with non working movement. Unfortunately while servicing the movement I cracked a jewel so I put it aside for jewel replacement by my watchmaker...

My first rep ( I see the guy that asked for pics has'nt responded). I paid somewhere between $70 - $90, 8 years ago on a business trip to Asia. Still works, tells the time and has a functioning chronograph. The pic is shitty but it has a beautiful starburst art-deco embossed watch face with sapphire blue hands and black numerals. Parts of the watch case are a bit rough though.

I see that some forum members are using the AP ROO's as examples of really expensive worthwhile reps.
IMHO, they don't represent good values because in the case of the chronos the seconds at 12 is not reliable, you need to have it serviced by a rep-friendly watch smith that has experience with them ( GM, Zig, Vac) and even after the graphite lubricant treatment has been applied they need to be checked regularly for safe maintenance, therefore it's a chronograph that you shoudn't use.
The AP dive watch that was posted is indeed very nice, but last time i read about it you shouldn't unscrew the crown that rotates the inner bezel becuase it breaks and also it comes without gaskets in the caseback so AFAIK you can't really swim with it.
So, a useless chrono and a non working dive watch are kinda of "interesting" investments in my book to say the least. But, at the same time you have good reps at decent price points like the Rolex Milgauss and the Ulysse Nardin MMD which go for less than 2 bills brand new.
It's all really very subjective, because we are all different and we also have very different disposable incomes so what is valuable for you may not be valuable for me. But it's a good discussion nevertheless.
Have you seen this BTW? they have a really nice sterile APROO homage.

I agree with you Kal on all points.

The AP Diver I posted I personally would never buy myself due to the inner bezel. I never said it was a high end rep though... I told my brother to not mess with it and he was okay with that. He asked me why? I told him it's because it's unreliable and you will break it. He said why again? and I told him, it's just a rep dude. If you really like it we will get you the V3 which I guess should have a working inner bezel a long with many other upgrades. He said he's stoked for now and can definitely live with it. It was actually very interesting to hear such outside feedback cause he was like, "Could I lume the painting on the dial like the name? Could I lume all the numbers on the date wheel?" I told him he could but if he was ever going to sell it, he will never get his money back.

Anyways, he still thinks it's a good deal for $300 even with the inner bezel. He could careless! I personally couldn't live with it cause if I am going to spend money on a watch, even if it's $20 I expect it to function correctly. I agree, it's all very subjective.

I was impressed by the Diver though! The Selita was a joy to wind and the crown screwed in perfectly. His watch was gaining an estimated 10 seconds a day. That's pretty damn good!

Nice site too! Couldn't click on any of their products though.

I also have a serious quality issues and I'm not talking about accuracy to gen. Gen crystals, gen dials, gen hands, gen inserts, gen bezels, gen crowns... Etc all are good upgrades and NOT because it's just more accurate.

Fake watches are fake but that doesn't mean they can't be quality watches.

I agree. Accuracy has to go hand in hand with the quality build. Skyland Avenger V2 is actually more accurate than V3 but V3 is nicely better built. In the long run, I go for that.

Hobbyists also have to understand that there are only a few factories that operate with good quality and accuracy. Despite their small numbers, they are building hundreds of different models and variations to satisfy demand. Gen AP factory is concentrated in making APs only. Rolex is focused on Rolex models only, add infinitum. On the other hand, these rep factories are making almost ALL of the models despite their limited logistics compared to their gen counterparts. They are not direct comparisons.

So early on, I told myself to just enjoy the hobby and appreciate every small thing I see them improving on. If it bothers me then I will mod it and continue to enjoy the ride. There is enough rep for everyone.

I think the third watch from the left on the second row is a gen.
