I got the Ruger MK III and the Browning BuckMark. Both in .22 cal. No Great stopping power to speak of but sure as hell a fun gun to shoot. I do alright with it. I've toyed with a beretta 9mil but it's kind of loud for my taste. Go for a Springfield XD9, for 400-500 bucks it a GOOD gun. lotsa power for the money.

I'm personally looking for a ISM for my next purchase. Having a hell of a time finding one. Does anyone have any sources?

in my opinion the beretta 92f is one of the finest shooting 9mm in the world but it is just too heavy to carry. i have never shot a better balanced pistol in my life. wonderful to shoot and uncomfortable to carry.

Seems to me you where looking for a conceal and carry weapon. Lots of the ones thrown around so far I would consider more side arms then conceal and carry. Sure you can, but they get bulky after a while and I got the impression that you are not a large person.

Go fire a Kahr PM9. Tiney little light weight sucker that will fire seven round of the best 9mm Parabellum ammo on the market. In a wheel gun that is small and light weight is the S&W 340PD 357 mag. Not a friendly gun. This 12oz (unloaded) canon kicks like a mule but is designed to save your life and do it quick. So light you will forget you are carrying it (3oz less then the Kahr plus ammo). Don't but one with out firing it... I mean this sucker kicks! You can shoot 38spl +p loads to leason the kick but the top 9 ammo will have more punch. T

They make rounds that are designed not to go through walls and such as well. I have two clips, one with each type of round color coded.

Beretta 92F, or a Sig Sauer in 9mm

Remember, guns don't kill people, good marksmanship kills people.

It was very a balanced gun, i just didn't like the noise and the mag reloading was a pain in the ass. Plus it didn't help that the previous owner was a showboating dick so i kinda got turned off by it.

C'mon who can find me an IZH35M? I wants one.

I would recommed the HS2000 (known in the US as the Springfield XD). It is lightyears ahead of anything else on the market at the moment.

My preferred ankle-knocker is a Taurus PT111. 9mm, 10 rounds, titanium and composite material, factory Tritium sights and has about 1000 rounds through it with 0 jams or malfunctions. Taurus has come a long way.

The best thing about it is it's so friggin light...the mag weighs more than the gun! No rust or corrosion issues either. I have a Sig and an HK, but they're pricey. More for investment than daily use. The Taurus is relatively cheap, small, reasonable capacity and very reliable.

My Glocks are good when I have a little concealment available (sweatshirt or jacket) but are a tad heavy for ankle duty. I wouldn't consider anything smaller than 9mm, .40 is probably the ideal round. As far as urban settings, you can get the new "personal protection" ammo which doesn't have quite the muzzle velocity or penetration, but will still splatter a scumbag's brains on the wall.

Now, if I could just figure out how to conceal my new .50 Caliber rifle, I'd be set!

You, sir, respectfully, took one snippet and quoted me out of context.
Bill, I'm not going to argue with you, but you used the right to bear arms and the right to express what you wanted in the same post, in the same capital letters. You're far from stupid and you know exactly what I meant. :D

ps. No need to use those respectfullys. We're cool.

Honeslty Pug, I love you, but your constant jabs to anything that has to do with the US grow tiresome. I was reading a thread on RWG, and just saw another gratuitous jab of yours at the US on RWG... about Vietnam!?

You are a better man than this. I am an EU citizen, and I dare you to find ONE jab of mine to the US, or any other country represented here. So your British and you live (d) in France and now are moving to a wonderful place. So the Euro is stronger than the dollar. So the US maybe didn't win on Vietnam. And on, and on...

Again, you tarnish your great image by taking jabs that are uncalled for.

Live and let live?

Regards,

You don't win an argument by belittling the people with whom you hold an opposing view. All that does is make everyone roll their eyes and completely write off your position as that of a religious nut that cannot have his opinion changed, even in spite of irrefutable evidence and persuasion. See, you do that and you lose the support of those on your side and the respect of those opposing you.

My genuine apologies. I didn't realise I'd made a single comment disparaging the US in this thread.

The closest I came was the caveat that I'm against civilian gun ownership due to the circumstances of my upbringing.

Kahr P9 9mm. Slim and lightweight. loaded with some Black talons. Had a glock, but they are too thick in my opinion.

My take on guns is:

I'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

Cybee....a very good friend of mine is a gunsmith and a gunFREAK...which i am not...if you care i can give you his phone number....and he could tell you anything about any gun in pro & con
yes, the german- swiss weapons are more expensive, but have more safety features, and are - i think - more reliable. Ruger ...a workhorse....but shake that thing....and what you hear ...scares you.
I sold a police officer a H&K USP in 9mm once....he didnt want to spend so much money....and he was not sure if it is worth it....i told him to feed the weapon any ! 9mm ammo....anything....shoot it, dont clean it....if it fails within 1000 rds....i take it back....he came back....5 weeks later....and we cleaned it free for him....he had 1200 rds through it....no malfunctions.
if your life depends on it....you want your gun to work !-
but- i owned a lot of them.....no more....only a Walther 22 precision target pistol.....
a pic from the old times !-WILDEY 45 AutoMag !!
dont open...way huge!

YOUR CHOICE

I would say go with what you can control, and what suits your purpose. You can't conceal a large framed .45 as easy as a J-frame S&W .38, but you will probably be more accurate with it. On the other hand, most self defense situations are at close quarters, and the person or thing being shot probably wouldn't notice if it had been shot by a .45 or a .38+P round at the moment of impact from 0 to 5 feet. PRACTICE with whatever you chose. Most people in a life-or-death situation would freak, but if you prepare yourself for the unknown, you will be better off if something does happen. Besides, shotting is alot of fun, and since we live in a country that allows us the privilege to keep and bear arms, take advantage of it! Here is my best advice; go to a local gun store. They will be able to point you in the right direction. Sorry for the rant, I just wanted to put my .02 in...

Yup, and the main problem is that the people that disagree with me are armed.

Oh, funny bit over. The reason that people like myself get wound up by the right to bear arms crowd is that most people with a strong enough opinion to take sides will by the nature of the argument fall into two groups, one of whom is by and large more naturally aggressive than the other, and love their guns, whereas the other side is by and large more peaceful and non-confrontational and can get nervous or scared by groups of gun owners shouting "cold dead hands" and listing the dozens and dozens of guns they own.

If the sheer volume of armaments don't scare people whose definition of an armed civilian is a criminal, then the aggresive arguing tactics usually do it. I'm actually fairly neutral in the whole debase, tending towards what I was brought up amongst, but I polarise almost instinctively against the kind of person that argues in that aggressive "I'm right and it's my right therefore you are wrong" manner, which is a large proportion of the pro-armed citizenry crowd, I'm afraid.

I'm going to bow out of this debate as I really don't want to be vilified over something I don't actually care that much about.

I believe that they are available in civilian spec in 9mm, .357SIG, .40SW, .45GAP, .45ACP calibers and run from about $500-550.
