I accidentally quick set the date at 930pm today and it doesn't jump at around midnight anymore like it used to...i totally forget about tc advise not to set from 1930 - 0200...This kind of sadden me haha. Does everyone tc movement jumps around midnight or there are even later timing ?

Quick setting the date at 9:30 shouldn't have anything to do with hurting the date change.

Watch this quick video on how the date change works. I specifically change the date right before and right after the date change and you can see that it's made to not interfere no matter where you quick set the date.

The first date change is at 16 seconds. After that I hand change the date in several positions via the crown, including right before and right after the next date change. You can see that it's made to let the date wheel move no matter what the time.

I usually move hands past midnight until the date changes, so I Know I'm setting the date correctly, next I go around 5am and quick set the correct date, after I set the hour. Is it good? (I don't know why someone takes the extra step setting the quick date to the day before the present, and allows the watch to change it moving the hands past midnight)

EDIT

Eheh I was thinking maybe is just a different way to do it.. nothing technical involved?

Great info on date change position. Glad to hear that's there no reason to worry about position of hands while setting the quick set date.

Except, there totally IS a reason to worry about it. The date wheel will wear or break the blade spring. TC himself specifies all this for a reason.

http://blog.tc-sub.com/2014/09/eta-tc-2824-based-watches-operation.html

NEVER set the date if the time is between 7.30pm and 2am on a TC watch.

You sir are right! Video here shows different movement, like 2836-2 date change.
TC date change wheel will wear and the ETA part number is not #2555 but #2556. Luckily it's not a big problem to change this part. If you know your way around movements.

2824-2 and 2836-2 use the same date change mechanism. And if the date wheel teeth or the spring in the date driving wheel is going to wear out from changing the date, then your movement has a defective Chinese part. TC's blog is just plain wrong.

Also, part number 2556 is the date driving wheel for the ETA 7750 and 7760, not 2824 and 2836.

Copying from ETA documents (hope that links open):
2824-2 LINK
2824-2 uses #2556 (Page 3 and page 18 find "POS 36")

2836-2 LINK
2836-2 uses #2555 (Page 3 and page 18 find "POS 35")

I stand corrected, the 2556 is for both the 7750 and 2824 and the 2555 is for the 2834 and 2836.

I still don't believe that setting the date at 9:30 will harm the movement though. Wish I had a 2824 movement laying around to check exactly what's going on with the date change at that time.

Just so you know.. on all the gen 7750's 7754's I own, the mfg's always advise caution on the date change. On all watches including the 2824's I own, I just do it out of habit. To me, it's just safer. I rotate past Midnight, let the date change then roll around to 6:30 AM to change the date. Never had an issue.

If the 7750 and 2824 uses the same wheel, one would think the same protocol be followed, but you never know. ;)

R2, I agree with you 100%. Why take the chance when it's easy to just not do it.

The only thing flawed in the current thinking is so many people compare the A7750's to the ETA 7750's which have totally different date change mechanisms. As I recall, it was Vac that did a complete breakdown and service of both of them a long time ago when the new A7750's first came out and among other conclusions was that the Asian movements could easily break during date change but the ETA's could not. The Asian movements have a slow date set which takes several hours where the ETA's do not. It's instantaneous. He also was the first to say how good the A7750's could be after being correctly serviced, and how bad the winding gears were compared to gen ETA.

Quick question, I know tc has a common issue with crown slipping when manually winding the watch. If its a gen crown will the slipping happen?

Nope. Put a genuine crown on a wso tube and have a nice day

Ahh thanks for the help. My tc v5 is currently on a gen crown as stated by the seller but it still slips. Could the fault lies with the tube?
