ARF dial into Noob case.

Hey all.
My longterm six digit sub uses a noob v10 case, its 904L. And currently has the noob dial fitted. The thing with these dials is under uv light they turn green, its an instant tell and one I see everytime I charge up the lume. So I want to fit a V3 arf dial I have but its to big!
When its fitted to the movement it covers the whole movement, none of it can be seen from the front. The noob is slightly smaller and just fits inside the 3135 movement, like every other 3135 I've messed with.
The arf dial won't sit in the case, either the noob case is slightly smaller or as I suspect, its the dial thats slightly bigger. The battery in my vernier is dead so can't tell you which it is for sure.

So is there a trick to get the dial to fit? Is this what dial shaving is? Any help and advice.

Interesting - it sounds like the same dial diameter difference that the Noob/ARF Daytona also has. And yes, dial shaving is the remedy - either that or shaving some material from the inner diameter of the case. Dial shaving can be a DIY job. I've done it on vintage dials by attaching the dial to a Dremel mounted in a "Dremel workstation" stand, and sanding down the edge of the dial while slowly rotating it.

ARF dials often seem to be a tad larger than other factories. I had to shave an ARF GMT dial down to fit it in a VRF case.

I found a unique way to safely DIY shave a finished dial that may be useful for you. I've been meaning to do a little tutorial on it but keep forgetting.

The biggest challenge is anchoring the dial to a die or a mounting plate so it can spin in a dremel without anything touching the face. The solution I found was E6000 glue. I knew from using it on other projects that it is extremely strong. But it also has another quality that makes it perfect for this task. It peels away intact, and perfectly cleanly.

First I epoxied a die to a dremel bit, then stair-stepped it with sharp chisel edge. Then I taped off the dial window and glued the dial onto the die with the E6000 glue.

Cheers KJ, I was kinda hoping you would jump in ;)
As always a lovely clear little tutorial. I'll get to work on it as soon as I can get my hands clean LoL! Been in the garage cleaning the dirtiest bike I've ever seen!
How fast am I spinning it, what would you say is the best number? And what grade paper?

And whats the best way to clean a dial? I've got a raffles dial I can use to practise on but its covered in dust that the rocket blower can't shift, I'd like to see if it can be saved. I really want to use warm soapy water on it, what do you think?

Cheers.

I did make a new tutorial thread on this topic bro.

DIY Dial Shaving

I'm going to QUOTE your last post there. Sorry for the re-direct but I run into this a lot where I'm re-posting info multiple times and it's better for everyone to keep it all in one place. Something I wish we were all better at when a new model of something comes out, lol. We usually have three or four threads, d'oh.

And this is the result! I did it free hand again. Sandwiched the dial between rodico and shaved it around half the dial at a time. I couldn't comfortably mount the dial to the dremmel so had a go this way. As it was only a very small amount that needed to be removed I felt comfy doing it this way.
And thats the biggest factor for me, comfort. I've got to be comfortable doing what I'm doing, from that comfort comes the confidence to attempt this kind of job.
Now all I need to do is go back in and remove that bloody hair!!

Not sure it was a public hair this time, I do love my watches LoL!! Its since been removed.
Don't know why but I always seem to have to clean it 2 or 3 times before I'm happy.
