1. Every time a rep is sold, god kills a puppy
2. Pesticide has little effect on weeds

Jos said in an email over RWG: this is just a small factory, not relevant to "our factories".
So chill.
Um no, this WAS one of our factories. Apart from that several people are going to be lined up against a wall and shot after which their families will receive a bill for the bullet so I'm not fecking "chillin", mmmkay?

I was fully aware of China having death penalty on the program in cases involving murder, drugs, weapons etc - sure, that's China for ya.

I guess I just did not have the imagination to see a capital punishment ever come into play for something as seemingly 'banal' as a violation of copyrights.

I honestly find that truly disturbing...
Quite common mate, the heads of a fake bag factory were shot late last year. China can shoot you for near anything if the "offending" is large enough.

That is FUBAR.
I understand your "scale-of-the-offence" argument, but a capital punishment for this type of crime still just seems ....well....totally out-of-proportion.
And it does somewhat deflate the innocence of 'just being into nice watches...'

You're not buying watches from the executioners, you're buying watches from the victims.

You should probably feel more guilty eating a hamburger than by wearing a rep watch.

Could be just a show of power, maybe some big Chinese dude needs a yacht, or a villa in Aruba as a good will gesture. I'm sure there's plenty of pockets that just want lining with good hard untraceable cash.

I don't disagree with you but calling the counterfeiters victims is a bit much isn't it? They know what they are doing is illegal.

I read the China Daily but can't find this anywhere. Usually they like everyone to know when there is a crackdown. Is there a link anywhere?

Just gonna say this.

Corruption in China is like Subs being repped. It's going to happen and it's been happening since forever.

I heard of a project investigating an orphanage who received millions of dollars from N. America in support of building and raising the children. None of the money ever made it to the orphanage. But somehow all the govt officials in the village were rolling in new Benz's.

Nothing in China happens without someone somewhere important knowing about it and making a side profit on it. I think when we hear stuff like this, it's a matter of one of two things:

1. Someone forgot to pay up or refused to pay up.

2. Some important high level person who was being paid for years got scared or caught with his bribe money had to pull the plug on someone.

Yeah it's a big show of power, what govt body wouldn't want that. It not only shows the world that they are onto such things, but it also shows other counterfeiters that its best to payup and cooperate, lest the consequences.

China already is dealing with bad rep for counterfeit batteries, airplane parts, etc etc etc making it overseas and showing up in very public places. (Ie. military) so bet your a$$ that they will show everyone that they are on top of QC in their own country. After all they have a bazillion gajillion dollar export industry to protect.

Furthermore, you don't think news agencies are controlled by the government in China? Come on now. Every piece of information disseminated from China is picked through with a fine tooth comb. This ensures that in the end, the country looks glorious no matter the situation of news being reported. So take heed with what you read coming out of China.

I don't believe for a second that the China government doesn't know where just about every factory is that makes reps and probably all the players involved, from watches, purses, clothes, and medicine, the list is endless. China doesn't have IP laws, this has been discussed by many news programs and broadcast all over the world. I've seen many news stories completely about the replica market in China and how they ignore the problem.

Its more of the criminal enterprise not paying taxes on the products they make and sell then on the name brand itself. This is nothing new here they could give a shit about name brands and infringement but criminal enterprise, not paying the government taxes, and evading authorities they do care about.

Now the China government doesn't want the world watching their replica market because they want to be involved with international trade and business and replicas aren't a welcome business on the global platform.

Its all about money and perception.
