It becomes my problem when you hurt yourself or get sick, and the hospital has to take care of you. If you go into cardiac arrest right now, you will be taken to the a medical center. You will be cared for. We will fit the bill. That's why medical insurance is a must. Just like car insurance is not optional.

Hefty fines for no insurance under Obamacare? How about $95 a month which will get you access to that medical center the BMW's talking about. Oh, and if you show you can't afford it, it gets waived.

And I don't know where you get the idea that immigrants are a bunch of shiftless ne'er-do-wells that don't work. Being in construction for the last 20 years or so, I can say unequivocally, that the local immigrant laborers, mostly central Americans, are the hardest working people I've ever known and get paid less and shit on more than any American worker.

$2500 fine PER YEAR is a hefty fine. For most of the people. I agree with Bimmer, that insurance is a good thing, but I don't want to be pushed to buy it. It's my health, and I do with it, whatever I want.
About construction workers... Trust me, living in L.A. I see them, probably, way more than you, mate, and I have nothing against them. They ARE good, and hardworking people. I'm against rewarding the crime. Why can't we do, what Canada did? You want to work here, earn money to support your family in Latin America? No problema, Sen'or, come over, live here for a year or two, work, be paid, and go home. Want more? No problem, come over next year, work, get paid, and go home. Problem solved. No green cards, no citizenship, no converting my country into mexican state. Mate, can you imagine 100+ millions of latinos here??? That's how many relatives they'll bring!!! There will be mexican or equadorian governors, police, president, and, as I said - bye-bye, USA!!! Corruption will be million times higher, than it is already, Spanish will be #1 language, and where you'll run then??? You, personally, will lose your job! And everyone else too. Please, don't tell me I exaggerate - it's already happened in California. Come over, you'll see it.

Car is a deadly weapon, buddy. Driving the car, I can put other people's life in danger. We are talking about MY life. And my health. Huge difference.
And... in L.A. if you go to ANY medical center - they're all overloaded with illegals, and you'll stay loooong line to get a help. And they get it for free. Another reason to eliminate illegals. I'm not even talking about overcrowded schools...

Of course you exaggerate. You're talking to someone who grew up in Miami, where they saying was "Last American to leave Miami, please bring the flag." Well, you know what? The sky didn't fall and Miami is a thriving, bustling International city. Most people feel that the international flavor adds to it's vibrancy. Just because LA has much more Mexicans and illegals than average you seen to think the whole Country is just like your little world. Well, it's not.

And immigration ebbs and flows with the economy. In 2007 we had 12 million immigrants and 2011 we had 11.1 million. 86% of all US immigrants arrived before 2000 and only 16% have arrived since 2000. 66% of foreign born immigrants have health insurance and 87% of native born have insurance. So your theory of all immigrants being criminals that suck our system dry really doesn't hold water at all. http://www.pewhispanic.org/2013/02/15/u-s-immigration-trends/ph_13-01-23_ss_immigration_01_title/

And as for insurance: http://www.forbes.com/sites/carolynmcclanahan/2013/05/25/five-quick-and-important-facts-on-health-insurance-through-obamacare/

"How much do you make? If your income is lower than 400% poverty level, you will receive assistance paying for your health insurance and if you earn less than 138% poverty level, you will be eligible for Medicaid – unless you are in one of those states that made the ridiculous decision not to expand Medicaid coverage for their poorest citizens. Per this great chart by Kaiser Family Foundation, a full 67% of our population will be eligible for premium tax credits or Medicaid."

The only people paying a penalty are those that can afford it and elect not too use it, which would really make no sense at all.

And here's something just for you:

"The good news coming out – California just released the rates for policies available on the exchange, and they are much lower than expected. It will be interesting to see how the remaining states move forward on rates."

None of your arguments really holds water Luthier. You say you love CA and it's the best state, yet it has by far the highest amount of immigrants (25%) of any State. Also, it has the most liberal government and policies of any State, other than possibly MA. Mostly everything you are against.

I don't want links. I want a coherent argument. I don't get my information from Anandtech unless I'm building a computer for gaming.

And I know LA sux and you have a huge disproportionate number of immigrants. I understand. But I also said the rest of the USA isn't East LA. You're taking a local problem and trying to say the whole Country is just like it.

It's not.

My wife is a legal immigrant from a Latin American country and, guess what?, that means my kids are of mixed descent and are part Latino. If you have a problem with it too bad. If your problem is only with illegals then i suggest you take another look at your post because I think it crossed the line into pure racism. My wife is not going to commit a crime, she speaks both languages, and my kids are being raised as Americans and to respect the law.

When they build a wall or close the gates they limit what makes this country great. The borders should be open. When a 14year old walks across a desert and faces death and the unknown all for job earning $5 or $6 bucks an hour so he can send most of it back to help feed his family, this should be an example for all of us and definitely the kind of people this country could use more of and as far as socialism goes I've never heard of a fireman charging to put out a burning house or a police officer charging to stop someone stealing a car or a child be thrown out of public school because his/her parents couldn't pay the tuition so I would think saving someone from a disease shouldn't be any different.

For now. What you'll say, if here will be not 3M, not 30M, but 100M "new residents"?
Yes, L.A. sux, but I live here. Rest of the country will be like East L.A. if this bill will pass.

Mate, I'm immigrant myself. And I don't care, if your wife is Latina, or Asian, like mine, or Zambezian, or Russian. SHE IS LEGAL. I have absolutely nothing against LEGAL immigration. God bless her and your kids, I'm perfectly fine with all of you. I'm against ILLEGALS. See the difference?
By the way... latino people belong to the same white race, as you and me. So, word "racism" isn't proper here.

Perhaps at the time when this was the case there was a (pragmatic/practical) reason why the country was made a safe haven?

That's what is so sad about this whole thing, it's because "when" not so long ago We the People and their government actually believed in freedom and personal liberties and everyone around the globe knew it.

Why not? What, people from Latin America are superior to chinese? As far, as I know, chinese built super empire just in 20 years, and Latin America still in total shit. So, why not chinese? Or indians? There's also about a billion people dreaming about living in US, why not invite all of them? Where's your logic, mate?

And if our government don't stop acting like theirs, soon none of them will want to come and we'll all be looking to someplace that's great to us and we'll all be dreaming about escaping from here.

If you don't have a problem with legal immigrants why raise the issue of having Hispanic governors? What's the exact problem with that? Or police officers? I just don't understand how having a problem with Hispanic police or politicians can be anything other than racist.

My logic is simple our borders should be open to those that are able and willing to make it here and contribute to the greatness of this place. If your suggesting because America is the envy of the world we should close it and keep it to ourselves because we're lucky enough to be here then I'd suggest that you have no real idea of what makes this place great.
