I doubt most people would know what BMG means, much less what it's supposed to look like. But then I've watched videos of the gen PAM692 (the first BMG Tech) and the case looks a lot similar to Titanium. Here's one as an example.

Regarding the crystal issue...
The “non distortion” crystal is not fragile at all. The crystal of PAM569 and Pam389 for instance, has no distortion and it is 5mm thick!
The issue about the crystal with distortion (lenses effect) is not only the distortion itself, it is also about reflection. It shows you the reflection of the outside and the reflection from the inside of the cristal, making two reflections that comes through opposite sides, wich make dial illegible sometimes.
The crystal without lenses effect (the correct one for new panerai releases) has only ONE reflection, from the outside of the crystal.
Also, the non lenses effect crystal gives the dial a more deep look wich looking from an angle, you can see the “rehaut”, where on the distortioned crystal you see the dial closer to the bezel.

I hope I could make myself explained. It is not only about distortion.

Funny. I have been looking for a few different black straps with blue stitching or accents. Mainly for the 1616. Last week, I found a strap I liked for my 904 and when I browses, I found one I thought would work for the 799. I hoped it might work for the 1616 - and it does but it doesn't work as well. It arrived.

I was just browsing old posts looking for an old link and came across this post. The day after my new strap from Dr. Phil came in. Lol small world. Same strap.

Do you have a link to the strap website ? Wouldnt mind checking it out. I see that this model is screw in springbar and not the usual Push pin.

Also, I'd really love for these units to have been released with clear / exhibition case back, would have been real nice.

Beset strap for that would be a Gen rubber in dark blue, £120 off the Pam site... Also, would it not be a good idea for the Rep Factories to start knocking out more coloured rubber straps, they'd make a killing!

Check out horusstraps, they have plenty of rubber straps available.

I have a 799 too and thinking of ordering a Miami Blue one, seems to be very close to lume color.

Alternatively check Ebay, Etsy and DHGate. There are plenty of options available.

I wasn't a fan of the 984. Until I got it. And then I loved it. Like absolutely loved it. With that being said, the 799 is one of my favorite references.

I know it's tough to make a choice especially before you can see the watches in person... Especially with these references. Because one thing I can say about both watches is that to me... They were both different in person than they were in pictures. That is, I "felt" one way about the watches in pictures but in person had an entirely different feeling and appreciation of both references in particular. Personally though, if I could only have one (of these 2)... I'd go for the 799.

Yes.
Rep has inaccurate blue color on hour markers and hands comparing to gen. It should be darker and less saturated blue.
