{*PCTeam*} KW PAM510 & PAM511 Little Review - Nobody is perfect !
The PANERAI GEN WATCHES PAM 510 & PAM 511
The gens Pam 510 and 511 Luminor Marina 8 days power reserve were presented as P-series in SIHH 2013. PAM 51O has SS case completely polished except CG and buckle which are brushed. PAM 511 has Red Gold case full polished even CG and buckle.
They are like the successors or the evolution of PAM 111 Luminor Marina, have the same 44mm Luminor case, similar sandwich dial, just similar because numeral markers are different (fonts are a bit wider and with different shape). PAM 510 has black dial and PAM 511 brown dial.
PAM 510-511 have a great difference in relation with their predecessors: they are fitted with a new totally “in-house” movement, called P.5000, with a power reserve of 8 days, instead of a Unitas-based movement 3 days like Pam 111 and similar Luminor Panerai watches. The movement is visible through the sapphire crystal of a nice display caseback.
This new manually wound movement is made completely in-house and has a power reserve of 8 days. This feature is an homage to the old Angelus-made 8-day watches. Even its size is reminiscent of the old movements, in a full 15.75 lignes (35.7mm) - the Angelus was a 16 ligne movement. The P.5000 has a structure similar to the old style movements, with most details hidden from the eye. All you can see on the P.5000 through the display caseback, besides the brush finished and diamond-polished plates, are the balance cock, the intermediate wheel, and a variable inertia balance wheel. P.5000 movement 8 days power reserve is obtained by connecting in series two barrels. This dual system allows the use of longer and thinner springs wound to the benefit of the length and uniformity of energy distribution. P.5000 movement has 21 jewels, 127 components and a frequency of 3 Hz. The P.5000 has no quick reset seconds hand feature like the P.2000 movement. This movement varies significantly from the other in-house manually wound calibers in this price range.

Gen PAM 510 is sold at a price no much higher than PAM 111, although it is fitted with a much more expensive movement, that could be a good reason for a future success in sales. Pam 510 comes with a warm black distressed leather strap which looks in person much better than expected from pics.

Gen PAM 511 Red Gold has a very beautiful colour and slightly more "red" than other rose gold watches. The gold alloy has 24% of Copper to get the colour and a little percentage of Platinum to get shine and avoid corrosion. I have seen in person and worn a PAM 511 and I can say the colour is really nice and with a strong personality. An awesome brown alligator strap fits perfectly this elegant watch.

REPLICAS KW PAM 510 & PAM 511
In December 2013 KW releases the replica P-series of PAM 510
In January 2014 KW releases the P-series PAM 511.
Both fitted with a decorated A-6497-2 movement. This decorated movement has not inverted layout like other decorated movements but has the Balance wheel @11 (like 6497 mvmt.) instead of @7 like gen. See below pics
KW DECORATED A6497-2 MOVEMENT LIKE P.5000 – WATCHES PLACED IN THE SAME POSITION (In order to see the different placement of movements)
In above pics both watches are placed in the same position (see CGs green encirled). We can see the different placement of the whole movement and the Balance wheels @7 and@11.
This decorated movement is a very good step to get the P.5000 appearance and for a no trained eye it is almost impossible to see differences in a no side by side comparison. In below pics Gen watch is turned to match gen and rep movement position (see CGs green encircled in different positions). In this way we can compare the movements in parallel. You can see there is a great similarity

Anyway there are differences as follows:
-Balance wheel position @ 11 instead of @7 (as above said)
-Replica has a conventional “big” 6497 Balance wheel, whereas gen has a little variable inertia balance wheel. This difference is the most noticeable in the rep movement.
-Balance cock (the bridge with the Incabloc over the BW) has very different shape and Incablock support in the rep due to necessities of 6497 movement. This is also noticeable.
-Some differences in bridges shape and jewels placements due to a different movement of base.
-Although the finish of rep bridges is very good, as usually in KW decorations, gen bridges have nicer, more uniform and more fine brushed and the edges are better defined and bevelled and mainly more nicely polished. Anyway the rep appearance in real size is awesome and reaches a gen-like level more than acceptable.
-Inscriptions on bridges have good finish, but are thicker and not as nice as gen. Due to the structure of 6497 movement, the rep inscriptions are placed clearly outwards, for this reason they are a bit bigger than gen to get the same appearance and not to leave longer spaces between prints. But this is only noticeable in side by side comparisons, because the inscriptions are not inverted like in P.9000 decorations.
Anyway, this is the most accurate of rep decorated movements on January 2014.
Regarding Luminor 44mm case-set, KW version is already well known and with a very good reputation of awesome finish, solid gen-like appearance and some inaccuracies in lugs as all rep Luminor case-sets at this moment. Just to say that the slightly higher (and a bit outwards) wrong placement of lug screw holes is more evident in the pics of these replicas. But maybe is an optical effect.
Caseback is also nice, with deep engravings and sapphire display. Just to say that in available replicas pics the N-series engraving is missing. This is a visible flaw
And now the main problem in these replicas: The sandwich dial
As you can see in below comparison pics, the numeral markers of rep dial are different from gen ones. This is due to the dial used in this KW rep is the same as PAM 111 dial, but the gen dial have wider fonts and with slightly different shape. See mainly “2” “3” and “6” markers.This flaw is really noticeable and being located on the dial is a serious issue for a replica.
I personally prefer PAM 111 dial, even without 8 days inscription that in my opinion makes a bit busy the surface.
I don’t understand why KW has used this kind of dial instead of the correct, maybe a mistake, maybe in order to use existing dials… nobody is perfect.
It is a shame because the watches are very well manufactured and gets an impressive level of quality and gen-like appearance, but the wrong dial avoids a First Class rep evaluation bordering Super rep status, since the decorated movement avoids previously a Super rep evaluation.
Very good first class watches and just good replicas due to a wrong dial.
