I have a pretty hard time convincing typical grown-ups, that have the sort of money/job to afford circa £20k watches, that the movement is fake. They simply won’t believe it! Why would they?
You try and point out a faux gear, wrong bridge position or whatever other bullshit we look for on gen vs rep pics, but in real life, people looks at you and say “what the fuck are you pointing at man, I can’t even see that shit”
Damn, exactly. Hell, I bet >95% of my friends who have the means to by gean AP and 99% of those who don't won't suspect a thing if you replace your decorated Miyota with Rolex 3135 caliber or random quartz movement, lol : )
People just don't care, it looks the same to them. My close friend once asked me "do you really have a Rolex?" after me wearing it daily for like 3 or 4 years - and she did it only after her husband randomly told her this. Do you think she will be able to spot Noob? I think she won't be able to spot a $50 replica. And keep in mind she is quite affluent person who is just not into watches - as 99% of other people.
It's like with anything else - you need to be pro to appreciate the details. E.g., say wine. I don't drink it often and, as an amateur, I can easily differentiate between shit and decent wine, but I cannot differentiate between just good and exceptionally good. Thus, you technically can easily make a replica of some renown wine which would be able to fool me...only if I knew how this renown wine should taste in the first place!
