If I ain't downing a nice tall Boddington or Smithwick, or missing a nice Castlemaine XXXX...I'm at the pub drinking the local dark ale or lager. Right now I'm liking Shiner's 97 Black lager and Czech 101. Miss not living in Berkeley, CA anymore... I used to love going to Triple Rock on a Friday night. :(

Gotta brag on the Oregon craft beers.

These have sufficient production to be available farther east:

http://www.deschutesbrewery.com/ Black Butte Porter

http://www.fullsailbrewing.com/ Just about anything they make!

http://www.bridgeportbrew.com/ BridgePort IPA

Rogue has already gotten props!

I'll drink to that!

Yeah! Bridgeport! God haven't been there in a while.

I am seeing more wine from your part of the world. What I have tried was very good and reasonably priced.

Bit off topic for beer but yes, I have over 400 wine estates within 3 hours drive of home -wooooohooooo :biglaugh:

Castlemaine XXXX, been a while, but good idea

anyone had Xingu? I think it is from Brazil? A nice black ale that is shockingly light, don't be fooled by the color

Top for me is

Goose Island Chicago

....Bourbon County Stout was the best beer in the world to me until they released....Bourbon County Coffee Stout! Good luck finding it. A+ rating on beeradvocate. Delicious.

Also enjoy from them, Perre Jaques, Nightstalker, Matilda, and I've got some Sofie in the fridge that I have yet to try. Strangely their widely available Summertime and 312 wheat don't do much for me, but nothing that comes in a 12 pack does anymore lol.

Next is

Unibrouie

from Quebec, which I'm surprised isn't mentioned yet. Haven't found one I haven't loved yet. I've got a 750ml corked bottle of Trois Pistoles waiting for Memorial Day weekend. All of them have a similar yeast flavor and a bit of "champaign" to them. They also make the annual ales for Trader Joes. If you've never had one, start with La Fin du Monde for a fruity belgian or Maudite if you like a bit less fruit flavor.

Also I'm working through

Stone Brewery

which recently was released in chicago. I didn't care for the Arrogant Bastard pictured in this thread. Maybe I got a bad bottle but it was too bitter for me. Self-Righteous ale was delicious though, a bit of grapefruit and tons of west coast hops. I've got a Russian Imperial stout and a Barleywine ready to drink next.

This year its like a whole new world opened up to me with fine beers, thanks to my beer savant friends for inviting me to it.

I was introduced to Bayern when they only made an "Amber" and "Dark" both were delicious (and at the time only avaliable in Keg). I lived in Great Falls, MT at the time. It took a 3 year tour in germany to top these beers, and they are still WELL in the top 5 of all time... Jürgen Knöller is the brewmaster, and brews just like they do in Germany. His beers are truley a work of art.

They are so good that my good buddy from milwaukee and I are planning a motorcycle ride there simply to have a beer at the brewery.... seriouly good brew....

New Glarus makes some great brews, especially the unplugged series. Spotted cow definitely has some odd flavor to it, I personally think it has a bit of melon flavor. Once it warms up you can really smell the corn though!

IPA's are big on the West Coast (California)
Bear Republic, Lagunitas, Stone IPA.
All strong, to be downed in a big icy mug, with lots of aroma.
I took my son to Stone Brewery in San Diego where we live for his 21st this June.
We have both gained weight in the belly since then, and are working it off.

My all- time favorite is Clipper City Brewing Co. based in Baltimore, MD. They only ship to 17 states on and near the east coast right now, so sorry CA guys. They have many micro's and cask aged blends. Their most famous is the "Sunken Sampler" 12pk. The average alcohol content is 7.25%, and is as smooth as a 4.7%. I've tried their Below Decks barrel aged at 10% abv, and it's as smooth is Killians Irish Red.

Bottom line: try them out, you won't be disappointed.

I live in the "annex" of Portland, OR; more breweries per capita in Oregon than anywhere else besides Germany. I also worked for Widmer Brewing for 15 years. One of my favorite 'bennies' was that if you work for the company for 10 years you drank for free any time you were in the Gasthaus. Ahhh well, it was a good five year run...

Widmer Brewing: Alt bier (Alt or NOTHING)
Laurelwood Brewing: Workhorse IPA and they currently make a damn fine espresso stout.
Ninkasi Brewing: Total Domination IPA (No hops, NO GOOD). They're based out of Eugene but they get a lot of exposure in the Portland Area
HUB Brewing: All organic. They make yet another great IPA and an excellent Czech style Pils.
Lucky Labrador Brewing: Beers can be a little young, but they make an Alt and a variety of IPAs and Stouts that I really like.

Outlying honorable mentions...

Astoria Brewing
Fort George Brewing: Run by a bunch of hippies. Pints cost $4.20... get it?
Pelican Brewing

There are a number of boutique tap rooms that offer a variety of beers from all over the Northwest, Idaho, California and elsewhere. Generally 30+ taps. Fun to hit when you have guests or want to do an all day pub crawl with friends. A good example would be...

Concordia Ale House: Maybe one of the best selections of Belgian beers in the city. You have to eat something before or during as most all the beers, of any style, are HUGE. Lots of 10% + beers to be had here.

Closer to home...

By The Bottle/The Tap Room: Tiny bottle shop and bar in downtown Vancouver, WA. Six barstools and another six on the opposite wall. They constantly rotate a selection of beers you just won't find anywhere else. My wife and I like to stop in on our way home.

Founders in Grand Rapids, MI.

Multiple top rated beers on Beer Advocate. Their KBS and Breakfast stout are outstanding, so is there bar food.

Thank god someone mentioned Stone Brewery! Visiting the brewery is a must every time I go down to San Diego from Los Angeles. If anyone's planning on visiting San Diego, do yourself a favor and look up Stone Brewery. The brewery itself is quite nice and contains a bistro along with several bars and a great garden in the back. There's nothing better than sitting out in the garden with a glass of Double Arrogant Bastard on a warm Sunday afternoon. On top of all that, they offer a nice little informative tour with samplings of their most popular brews at the end.

Anyways my favorite brews are:
Stone Double Arrogant Bastard Ale
Alesmith IPA
Dogfishhead 90 Minute IPA
Rogue Dead Guy Ale
Leffe Brune
